Default 2004 xj8 drive cycle help

Hi,

I need little help in some friendly advice

Can someone please fully delineate the drive cycle for my car.

I cannot get my car smog tested in California… the technician plugged in OB scanner into my car and said it won't pass. While there is a P 1000 code… And I should complete the drive cycle

I've driven the car for about 150 miles and it still showing the P1000 code

Please help.

Thank you

hi David thanks the response…

Question… Is the drive cycle the same for the X350 as the X100 because the link is from the X100 board ?

Primarily yes. Here's the thing, the reason you see so many low speed maneuvers is what you have to do is trigger canister purge functions and EGR functions. It's why you can't just hop on the highway and get it cleared. All of the conditions are time and speed specific.

If need be you can often find the one for your car in the workshop manual - a free download - but they all tend to be quite similar. To help yourself you can via OBD read which monitors are set and which not and then try to see why those ones aren't.

I keep an inexpensive scan tool plugged in to the diagnostic port when setting the I/M Readiness tests. I use an AL 519,about $60 US, which works on all my cars. It is easy to check your progress.

I just plugged it into my 2004 Vanden Plas and took a couple of screens for you to look at. You can see that all the required tests have green ticks (showing ready) If the test was not ready there would be a red cross there.

(Note I have a pending code showing --just happens to be the intake air sensor reading high.)

It appears that a P1000 code means ECM internal error... but on Fords it means the drive cycle isn't complete. FWIW.

When you clear codes, you will get P1000

I too have this issue for about 1000 miles. Mine is an incomplete COMP monitor. I currently beleive is due to a very minor vacuum leak, not enough to trigger CEL. If you can you may want to check your fuel trims.

Hi Whiskey Bravo,

The full description of the X350 diagnostic drive cycles is long, so rather than try to retype it here it will be easier if you download the Powertrain section of the Workshop Manual at the link below. The Diagnostic Drive Cycles begin on pdf page 2135:

Powertrain

The other five sections of the Workshop Manual are also available from this forum at these links:

Table Of Contents

General Information

Chassis

Electrical

Body

Cheers,

Don

Cheers for that. Yeah all five studs move together in a slight rocking motor so hopefully all good there. Cheers
