Default 2005 XJ8 glove box stuck shut

I do not know what happened to initiate this situation. One day I just couldn't get the glove box to open. When I push the button to open it an alarm beep goes off.

Does anyone know how to get this back to normal so I can open the glove box? Important things in there like registration etc.

Thanks in advance,

Jerome

Have you still got the Owner's Handbook ? This sort of thing is normally linked to use of the valet key. Did you press the valet key button by mistake ? On my last X350, a 2003, this was in a stupid position and easily pressed accidentally, but it was moved on later cars.

I also noticed that when I tried to open the trunk with the button in the car the beep would go off. The way I was opening the trunk was with the trunk open icon button on the fob.

I tried something new. I opened the trunk manually with the key, it opened and the lock on the glove box and the trunk open button was released.

All working fine now.

Welcome to the forum Jerome,

Together with the Owner's Handbook which explains about valet mode.

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X350 forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

I can only DREAM of going to a place with valet parking.
Like... who'd put anything valuable in the glovebox for a valet, or mechanic, anyway? I s'pose the option sounds nice though :-)

Au Contraire ... ... I can only think that it's NIGHTMARE that someone somewhere should presume to even think that I would wish allow anyone else, especially someone I don't know, to drive my Jag.

Valet parking ! It's an insult !

(One's butler follows in the Rolls, and he parks the the Jag).

"(One's butler follows in the Rolls, and he parks the the Jag)".

Only if you live in Gloucestershire-you have to keep up with your neighbours.

My wife makes a point of not wearing her diamond tiara in the supermarket so she pops it in the glove box."

You were lucky! I had to sell my wife's Tiara in order to afford a Jag.
I told her it was locked in the glovebox and I didn't have the Valet key (HUH?)
Actually I did show my wife the Valet button when I first got the car, but her sunglasses were in there and I didn't have a manual. I swear she asked for my driver's license.
