Both rear doors won't open...
So I just grabbed a really clean 2004 XJ8 that has been parked for a couple years after a no start issue. I got that resolved (alternator frozen so solid it had the dealer thinking the motor was stuck) and have been driving it a couple days now.
It's doing a host of weird things I can't sort. Doors auto-lock when in drive but don't unlock unless you hit the button above the climate control. Trunk is stuck in "valet," but only the trunk. Fuel door and glove box open fine. Doing the lock/unlock with the key doesn't take it out of valet and there is no fob. It's the black key. The really weird thing is the back doors. They act like they stay locked. The plunger moves up and down but neither door will open inside or out. Pulling up on the lock doesn't help.
Anyone heard of this before?

For valet mode you need to insert a non-valet key into the trunk and unlock it manually. Don't be alarmed if it doesn't unlock freely. They key is seldom used and the lock will stick. Spray a little lubricant in and work the key until it unlocks. Leave the trunk open and start the vehicle. The dash should indicated the boot is open. It is now out of valet mode. If it doesn't indicate on the dash spray the latch mechanism you may have a micro-switch that is stuck.
I will have to give the door lock situation a little more thought and check for TSB's for the locks and modules. I would recommend you spray lube the lock mechanism's for the doors that will open and that may cure the auto-unlock. Even though the auto lock is locking a micro-switch may be stuck.
Most likely in the drivers door. The doors lock and unlock in sequence so the drivers door must unlock before the passenger front and on to the back. Lube up the front locks and give it another try.

I have tried the unlock at the trunk and the doors several times with no luck. Still get the "Valet Mode" message when I push the trunk button inside or the kitten head at the trunk. This one doesn't have a green key with it, only the black one so I thought it would take care of it. Last Jag I had this problem with actually had a stuck Valet button, no luck here.
I will try another hard reset, I haven't done that since I got all the other little bugs worked out.
