Default Plug Seems Stuck In Receptacle?

After sliding the red slide back (open) on the receptacle, The plug doesn't want to come out. I don't want to apply too much pressure for fear of breaking another connector. Any suggestions? Thanks, Steve

The red piece covers the part you actually have to press down on to release the connector, kind of a two-step dance.

Thanks, wfooshee! I can feel it depresses a bit. However, The plug doesn't seem to release, Should I use a tool like a screw driver to press or pliers to squeexe?

Is there a name for this type of connector? If this is a 2 step dance, seems like there is a need for a third hand. Do the technicians have a special tool for this?

Thanks, Wingrider! Perseverence is my middle name

There is a tool named "Lisle" specifically made for unplugging this sort of connector. It has a photo of it working on one just like the one we have. I will send a link or photo later. If I did this often, I would order it now. However, I will have a go a bit longer.

Actually, one of my 9 piece Orion hose extraction pliers almost works, but this aint horse shoes!

As per usuall, the issues are:
Location, location, location!
Slippery F'n plastic!

Most connectors have some sort of ridge on the plug so that it can be gently levered with a small screw driver. This one has no such thing. It hates me! The plug slips into the receptacle with almost perfect tolerance.

I will endeavor to wrap, as best I can, the plug end with some tape I use to prevent folks from slipping and breaking their keister on the steps in the cabin of my boat. I will search my toolboxes for the plier I need to depress the receptacle; I know exactly what it should look like. If that fails, I will scour the shelves of Harbor Freight.

If all fails, then the wrecker will take her to the junk yard!

I just did this on my 07 XJ8 yesterday (Valley hose replacement). Press down just in front of the red slider. The piece on the left of your photograph should come out. No tools needed.

Here's where I found the tip:

Thanks, DaveAllen! That's what I keep telling the dang thing, but it just won't listen! I'm going to get the false bulkhead out first. My hands are a little too large for the space with the bulhead in place. That is why I've tried several tools.
