Come on you two. Which is best? 45 or 90 degrees?
John you said that 90 seems too much. How far did you go?

Mark,

For me when I attempted to go 90 degrees it felt too tight and didn't want to break any of the bolts so I personally settled for about 45 degrees. No issues.

+1 on abonano's suggestion.

When I reached about 40 - 45 degrees, after the 8Nm setting, I could "feel" that it got a good deal harder to turn and was not going to risk stripping threads.

No leak issues at all with my single piece water pump.

Thanks guys. Are the water pump bolts ytt (stretch) bolts? Usually YTT bolts are stretch, and need to be replaced every time. Or are they just standard bolts that use a YTT spec for correct installation?

I just replaced water pump last week on my 2004. I got a water pump from Rock Auto with aluminium plate gasket. It was a shock to me that the water pump was previously replaced by Jaguar dealer ( shown on car fax when I bought it) and they used black paste silicon gasket and paper gasket. They put too much paste which caused the paste to spread and blocked at least 50% of the inlet and outlet of the water pump.

I've used the AC Delco version in one of my older Jags. Good quality, zero issues. Good alternative to OEM.
