Default Where is the SCLM?

The 2004 MY XJ Electrical Guide indicates the SCLM is on the upper steering column but I cant find it. I'm looking for a modue with a black 4way connector IP24 with Y,U,YR and B wires. Can anybody advise where its located and if anyone has a picture that would be great.

Hi hafren,

The parts diagrams are not very helpful. Part 10 in the diagram below is simply called the "Control Module." Could that be the SCLM? Part 2 is the "Lock Housing."

See the parts descriptions at:

Cheers,

Don

If memory serves me right the SCLM is located underneath the fuse panel in the booth. You can unmount the fuse box and lift to the side to expose the module. One of the problems with its location is that if debris gets around the drain hole where it is located it becomes wet and causes all types of grief. Usually a good cleaning of the contacts will clear things up.

Some of the U.S. cars does not have a SCLM fitted. Or it may be disabled in a VID block.
Is your steering wheel locks after you remove a key from a barrel?
The SCLM itself is located on a steering column, you need to drop it down to be able to get to it.

Hi tbird6,

If you knew all the Jaguar acronymns by memory you'd be a verifiable savant! I had to look up SCLM too.

See the links in my signature to lists of Jaguar acronymns & abbreviations and Jaguar OEMs (I had to do two separate lists due to the forum character-count limit, but our forum member KrissMotors has compiled both lists into an online searchable database).

Cheers,

Don

Default Where is the SCLM? Steering Column Lock Module - SOLVED!

Moscow Leaper is right on the money! I finally found an image of the SCLM on top of the steering column. So I dropped the column and guess what, the module is not there on my 2004 XJR!

So now I have to find out how to solve the DTC B2170 which lists SCLM ground supply circuit fault with no SCLM. The joys of owning a Jaguar

Worst case, find something electrically connected to it and follow the wires.

The SCLM is not fitted then, it is disabled in a VID (or, else, there should be an additional wires to fool a BCM).
The DTC don't need an investigation, it should be present if a SCLM is not connected. If the SCLM is disabled in a VID block it only allows a vehicle to start w/o unlocking a steering column (with a SCLM car will not start until a steering is locked).
