ZF Solenoid Replacement
Hey guys. I'm planning to replace the solenoids in my X350 this weekend. My question is, what happens if you don't reset the TCM after the solenoid replacement? I don't have easy access to a dealer. Will the transmission eventually adapt? Will it cause damage? How long can I get away with driving it before it absolutely has to be reset? Thanks!
Well, the notes in the ZF solenoid pack says shift quality will be poor for 3-4 weeks until it re-adapts without the reset. Gonna see how bad it is after I get fluid back in it this afternoon and go from there.
If anyone is following this, after a few days driving the car it feels good. It hasn't gone into fault since the repair and the really terrible 5th gear shift flare I had been experiencing is gone. As is the "squawk". So far so good.
There are some silicon short tubes that some replace I forget what they are called.
Just the fluid and pan/filter. I had planned to do the mechatronic sleeve also, but the one that came in my kit was not an OE ZF sleeve and it didn't fit right so I had to put the original back in. If at some point it leaks I'll replace it - hopefully I'll get some miles on this new fluid first! I was not able to get those valve body tubes or the other valve body to case sleeve in time for the window of time I had to do the project, so I did not replace those. If I have to drop the pan again for any reason I'll go ahead and do them now that I've had it apart and see where everything goes. Or in 60k miles when I do another fluid change, whichever comes first. The car only has 85k on it now.

No problem. It wasn't as bad as I was anticipating. The fluid fill is still the biggest PITA of the procedure!
