well attempted to pull my failing linear switch apart last night. Couldn't get it fully apart without risk of destruction. What I did find is that adding pressure to the selector rollers made contact and worked. So I have slid some plastic under the selector to apply more pressure to the switches. This is not a long term fix just getting me moving whist waiting for a replacement.

Up to VIN 737934 the part number is DBC12395
From VIN 737935 the part number is LNA6550BA
Whether the car has a ZF or GM transmission is immaterial
SNG Barratt have confirmed this from the official Jaguar parts list and I have just removed a faulty linear switch labelled DBC12395 from my 95 XJR (VIN 736262) while a replacement purchased from eBay, allegedly from a 1996 XJR and I therefore assume post VIN 737935, is labelled LNA6550BA.
These switches are no longer available as new parts and can only be obtained as secondhand parts from cars which are being broken.
Anybody know where I can a get a functioning DBC12395 from?

I'm still on my first cuppa coffee and a bit too bleary eyed too go into a deep rabbit hole, but.......
I think there might be some discrepancies in Jaguar parts listings.
According to the service literature (wiring diagrams, specifically) the normally aspirated 4.0 cars didn't have a linear switch at all but, instead, used a transmission-mounted rotary switch. These cars would have the electronic ZF.
The linear switch is shown for the 3.2 cars (which had the non-electronic ZF) as well as the cars using the 4L80E transmission---the V12s and XJRs.
I had linear switch problems with my XJR. What I'm seeing today in Jaguar's E-catalog doesn't match my recollections from the time.
I'm not trying to assert anything definitive but merely suggesting that a bit of digging might be called for.
Cheers

The 4.0 ZF does have a decoder module on the shifter (also with 14 wires), but that's not the same as the R/V12 version. The 4.0 ZF decoder module is DBC10025.

Question: does anyone have this switch working but very noisy? Also, mine is a bit wonky as it doesn't always want to let the lever move out of park on start up. Is it activated by the brake light switch?
Or is this a micro switch of a different PN? Does my profile say I have a '96 X300? (XJ6)
