Default Diagram for transmission mount

Is there a diagram online somewhere showing the different parts of the transmission mount?
Looks like the transmission mount spring buffer is missing on the XJR and whenever going over speed bumps I hear a thud and I think it's because the transmission isn't mounted correctly or some type of bushing is missing...

I tried looking underneath the car and there looks to be a hole in the transmission mount with a star bolt in the middle but bolt just moves up and down with the transmission freely.... not sure if that's where the spring mount buffer goes?

Here's a good one....

Engine Mounting Bracket-Rear-4.0 Litre Supercharged-Automatic - Parts For XJ Series from (V)720125 to (V)812255 (X300) | Jaguar Heritage Parts UK

The trans *does* move up-down a fair bit.

Cheers

Thanks Doug. How much play would you say is normal for the transmission to move up and down?

So I took a picture of what my rear mount and it looks like the original bushing totally deteriorated

I'm assuming the spring mount buffer bushing sits in between the mount and the center bolt/washer?

Yep, your bushing is gone, so that assuredly is part, if not wholly, your problem.

This (attached below) is what it should look like.

Thanks Al.

Hopefully installing the new bushing is as simple as removing the bolt and slipping the new one on and my problems will be solved

It is not as easy as that if I recall given the high tension spring and complex arrangement....

I tried to search for a "How To" here but didn't find it, although I do recall a discussion on the topic.

Maybe someone else can find it.

Got the new bushing installed this morning but for some reason the washer is not flush with the bushing. There seems to be about a 1 inch gap from the bottom of the bushing and the washer?

Am I missing something else?

I can't tell from the diagram or the picture Al posted if there should be

Sorry for the late info...I don't check in here as often as some. I replaced mine about 2 years ago while chasing a vibration problem. I was left with that same gap and the consensus at the time was that it was that way in all of them. Its about half way down the first page of this thread...

Thanks for the information. The same day I had it installed I tried installing an old shock bushing between the gap but it seemed to make things worse. Adding the bushing resonated the transmission noise throughout the whole car so I too came to the conclusion that that's how it was designed to be. Now the only noise I get is the damper peg sliding through the buffer
