Most autoparts stores can read the codes for you and tell you at least what the code is. The code may not be the actual problem, but it can point in the direction of the problem.

 

V8 or inline inline 6 engine ?

 

in line 6 - supercharged model

 

also i remember last 2 times i took her for a drive - i smell gas only when she just starts up cold & it goes away within a minute

 

turns out code shows Oxygen sensor probability

 

When I smell gas and don't see an obvious gas leak from a fuel line, fuel injector, etc or a pre-cat exhaust leak, I always suspect O2 sensor.
