IMHO they were installed just so the specidications table in the sales brochure could say "fog lights" :-)

What I meant was: they don't work very well and Jaguar installed them just so they could say the car has fog lights :-)

I would guess this holds true for the rear fog lights too?

Here in SF, fog lights are a big help. I'm on my mobile, so I can't see what model u have, but my XKRs work decent enough to illuminate under the fog banks. The rear "fog" lights just increase your tail illumination- which helps to not get rear ended. More helpful is pushing the bottom to make the tailgating a-hole behind you think you are breaking. It's a maneuver I use quite a bit.

PS- the is a dealer option on my car where the fog lights are inhibited when high beams are on. I've turned this off, because there are times on back roads when high beam plus fog lights really flood the road and help.

Is that really a dealer option where the fogs turn off when the high beams are on? My car does the same thing, but I just figured it was from the manufacturer, not dealer.

The fog lights on my X300 seem useless. I know you don't want them aiming nearly as high as your regular beams but these seem to just dissipate just a few feet from the bumper. They do look nice though. They are there just for decoration.

If the steering wheel is concealing the indicators on the switch, I really can't tell by looking outside whether on or off...but if I flip the switch whilst "looking for evidence" I can see a bit of difference....really brightens up the area within 10-15' of the front of the car and extends the lit area more fully to each side....nothing more

Yes, for some. See the attachment in this post for a pdf listing by model (at least as of 9/2003)

I like them for decoration but you probably just need to install HID's.
