Default Parking Brake Cable Removal?

Is there an easy way to disconnect the parking brake cable near the hub so that the hub can be removed or does the whole parking brake assembly have to be removed?

Are you doing wheel bearings?

In the center of the diff cage, just below the driveshaft you should see the park brake cable. On the diff cage, there are 2 e-clips that secure the cable. Disconnect the park brake cable adjuster, then remove the e-clips and this will allow the cable to move if you need to swing the hub down.

Yes,I'm replacing the rear wheel bearings but I need to remove the hub assembly as I'm replacing the hub assembly with another one that has new races, bearings and seals already installed,so I need the emergency cable to be removed from the hub assembly in order for it to be removed.

Hi 95Leaper,

If you'll let us know which of your Jaguars you're working on we can give you more specific replies and perhaps direct you to the appropriate Workshop Manual. The X300 and XJS are very similar or identical, but the XJ40 may differ a little.

Cheers,

Don

Sorry for the confusion, since I posted this in the X300 section I thought it would be understood. The car is a 95 XJ VDP.

Thanks for clarifying, 95Leaper. I've sometimes spent 30 minutes or more crafting a reply to a member who owned more than one Jag, only to find out that he had mistakenly posted in the forum for one of his other Jags, so I've learned not to assume anymore.

You can download the X300 Workshop Manual at one of the links below:

Cheers,

Don

G’day 95,

There is a white plastic clip which secures the handbrake cable outer sheath to the rear brake backing plate and a small pin which secures the end of the cable to the handbrake
actuating lever.

Have a look here

Cheers,

Thanks Jeff,I'm familiar with the setup, just wondering if there's an easy way to remove it without disassembling the parking brake shoe assembly on the hub and removing it all in one piece.

I haven't found an easy way, unfortunately. It's been a long time since I've had to dig in, but I recall that some disassembly was required, and that it wasn't much different from most vehicles with drum brakes except there is no hydraulic servo cylinder. Before you begin, take photos of how the springs and adjuster pieces fit together, because getting them back together in the proper orientation is always fiddly.

If you have time, you would help others in the future if you could post some photos of the process.

Cheers,

Don
