Default Should a US MY96 XJ6 have a trunk lid release button inside?

So I have been looking around inside the interior of my 1996 XJ6 for a way to release the trunk lid (bootlid latch for you brits) from inside the car but so far I have not found anything.
Should this car have this or not? If it should where is it at?

OK, so I tried the button there and it does nothing so I am guessing there is something wrong with the electric truck release.
Can anyone point me towards any write-ups on diagnosing that?
Thanks

If the lamps in the boot are not illuminating when the lid is OPEN, the latch switch is probably faulty and might be in VALET MODE or the harness at the right hinge-point has faulty wiring.

Something about elongated rod end hole the trunk release actuator ( ? )

You should be able to hear the actuator moving

The x300 wiring harness is susceptible to tearing apart at the trunk/boot hinge....due in part to the exit hole in the plastic hinge cover that tends to eat through the harness over the years. My broken wires resulted in no number plate lights, no trunk lights and the release not working. Re-connected the wires and all was good.

My ultimate solution was to cut the plastic hinge cover back as far of the harness exit hole and covering the harness with a good quality woven cable sleeve and re-attaching it to the boot/trunk gas strut.

Maybe not the most elegant solution....but I'm predicting it's not going to happen in the next 30 years

Ugly mess..luckily they're color coded...

Extended the woven cable sleeve up the hinge as far as the trunk/boot lid...that was probably unnecessary.

I bought it in an electronics shop...it is heat resistant woven mesh split conduit....probably bought it in a 1 metre roll from memory.

There is one of those great supply stores in Kansas City that I visit

They have all the stuff , just moved to larger location as great stock room to brouse

For someone to order a small order from them ( ? ) they certainly do phone orders but best have maybe stock # with manufacture
