alarm sounder for arming/disarming
anyone know where the sounder is located that creates the sound when arming and disarming the car with the keyfob?
mine started to gradually get softer and now has stopped working all together...i can tell when i arm and disarm as i hear the gas cap lock and unlock :-)
also i turned on passive alarming and now have no warning other than the alarm going off ...

Any other idea where it might be...I pulled off the wheel liners and couldn't find it...I've been doing lots of searching and not really finding where it should be on a 2001 x308

Mine is at the front driver's side. If you look under the hood, you will see a large square beam on each side of the engine going from the firewall to the front of the car. The horn is partially buried inside the beam, facing the inside of the car if that makes sense. It's right next to the radiator.
The sounder is separate than the horn...I am learning it is a battery backed up sensor somewhere up front...I have heard wheel well, front of car, by radiator, etc...seeing it is no longer making the beep sound when I arm and disarm the car it is making me crazy trying to find it :-) I

Attached is a bulletin for the alarm sounder. The area to search is near the ABS unit on the vehicle. There is also a picture of what you are looking for. You might want to check Fuse 9 in the drivers side rear heel board fuse box. It is the power supply for the sounder.
Huh, seems like my sounder was stuffed in a really strange and incorrect place then. I'll try to get a picture later this week of where mine's located.

ok, here is the pics of where I found it...in order to remove it, take out the two bolts that I have circled...you have to remove the front under tray and remove it from the bottom of the vehicle...it was a real pain to find it, so I hope this helps others...
Looks like mine's close to where that one is. Somewhat related, is there a way to set the sounder to chirp every time the lock button on the remote is pressed, instead of just the first time the system is locked? On my other car I rely on the repeatable locking chirp to make sure I've actually locked the car..
I currently have the wheel arch liners off and can see mine through the spokes of the wheels. In the UK you tend to find them unplugged and the plug covered with a waterproof cover. This is because UK cars were not allowed to "Chirp" when you lock them as it is considered antisocial. When you see a car being locked on the TV the "chirp" is often added in the editing suite for foreign countries who may air the show.
In the UK the law states that horns and warning sounders such as a truck reversing cannot be sounded between the hours of 23:30 and 07:30, however you find this is largely ignored nowadays especially by the ambulance service who seem to think it's appropriate to whizz along empty roads at 2am with their sirens wailing.

I just bought a used one on eBay...I looked for the latest date I could find so hopefully the batteries are still good in it...it sure did look pretty in the picture ...about $35 bucks
I know SNG Barratt has two different ones, a passive unit ($95) and an intelligent unit (about $400) both new. What's the difference?
batteries defintiely aren't replaceable...you would have to pretty much destry the unit...i don't know the difference, but on our cars, US version of X308, there are only 2 wires going to the sounder...there looks like there could be up to 6 maybe, as i don't remember...
Thank you

I have plugged in new sounder for my 1999 XKR it"s a passive one ending letters BB not AA as the original which isn't made anymore, I have left it overnight to charge the internal batteries but this morning no change it doesn't sound and I have checked the no 9 fuse and it's fine..... the car battery is brand new, any ideas please?
