The brake lights would stay on periodically when driving, so I removed the SLM module from the boot and sent it out for repair. However, now I cannot open the boot to re-install the SLM! None of the buttons will open it, nor will it open with the key. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you pushed down on the boot lid and turning the key? Review this whole link, many scenarios to peruse.... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...t-open-200009/

People that NEVER use the key seem to have this problem when debris gets into the lock mechanism.
I use my key every few weeks to ensure that I have access to the boot lock in case of electrical failure!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not much sympathy. Sorry

Thank you Highhorse! As you suggested I pushed the boot lid down while turning the key and it popped right open. I am so relieved. I had visions having to drill holes in the lid, etc., as I read some of the other posts. I've had the car for 17 years and never used the key even one to open the truck...unitl today.

You can get a product called Dry Lube from Home Depot or Lowes. Its in a gray can, you only need the small one, and its a silicone based lube. Spray the key hole (it comes with a spray straw) and work the key, give it another shot, work the key. Then check the latch mechanism. Latch it shut, key the boot open, latch it shut, give it a shot, release with the key...then use the remote or dash release, relatch, use the remote or dash release, give it a shot and call it a day. Time for a Yuengling. This should be done about once a year or so and only half the spraying, maybe longer if you follow Bob's recommendation.

Had that brake lamp issue on my XK8. Fixed it with a new brake switch.
Yes, I thought of the brake switch, however looking at the wiring diagrams, the single, normally-open brake switch operates the the center brake lights and the left & right brakes lights as two separate systems. The center brake lights on my car always operated normally. The left and right brakes lights would sometimes stay lighted after releasing the brake pedal. Because the center lights always operate normally and the two systems are controlled by the same switch, the SLM has to be the culprit. (the 12 volt power wires to the left and right brake lights pass through the SLM) We shall see, I should have it back by Friday.
