Default Is this the end of my Jaguar....? 03 Jag XJ 8......

For 8 years it would not start very rarely but it would occur. It would start eventually. Now it is not starting more frequently like tonight and I am getting the abs, trac and asc bad indicator messages as well as gear fault message and engine in failsafe mode as well as many of my cluster lights are out. The insane thing is that the car did start and all these messages go away. The car runs great but the electrical....eeeegads ! I am going to get the wheel sensors cleaned or perhaps the abs module rebuild but what about the rest of the issues? The gearbox seems to work fine and the car does not actually go into failsafe mode. Computer, short? Any help / suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Have your battery load tested.

+2 Battery

Start with eliminating the simplest and most regular cause of weird electrical issues before jumping to the rarer and increasingly more expensive possibilities.

I see the EverStart batteries at Walmart. The crazy thing is that I got a new Exide battery about 6 mos ago. I guess it could be bad or installed improperly. The people that sold me the battery installed it. Thanks !

Unless it's driven frequently or kept on a maintainer a Jag battery will run down. Yours may be just need to be charged. Driving for a half hour every week or two just will not be enough.

What is the battery voltage across the terminals with the ignition in the OFF position when measured with a voltmeter?

Just because a battery is 'new' doesn't mean it's fully charged. Batteries at parts houses sometimes sit for several months before being sold and should be charged as needed prior to installation.

Thanks...I am taking it to my mechanic and have him test and inspect the install Monday. I am hoping it is just a battery issue. New problem, now I am getting a message saying passenger door open, when they are not and the dome light won't turn off all of the time. So so frustrating !

Yes a "smart" battery tender is a must w/ these if not driven daily . I use the NOCO Genius 1100, it's been awesome going on 3 years now.

This is a battery charger correct? I am not driving the car everyday and that can be a problem right?

Yes the NOCO Genius & CTEK are quality automatic chargers that keep the battery @ optimum health when not in use. I keep mine attached @ all times & just hook up via extension cord to the trunk when parked. These cars are very sensitive to voltage fluctuation & will present a myriad of phantom problems as a result.
