my 99 VDP has 67K miles on it and she is new to me. it's been going into failsafe mode intermittently ALOT. we have TSP error codes, but i've been noticing 9 times out of 10 when failsafe engages it is when i make a right hand turn. the throttle body is clean and looks to have been replaced. when it goes into failsafe i have no option but to pull off the road and restart and hope for the best. it would take half a day to get to speed limit in failsafe mode. sometimes it will misfire when entering into failsafe mode and the engine light comes on. sometimes the transition is smooth. any ideas?

Possible failing battery - can you post the codes? is that TPS codes, i.e. throttle position sensor?

 

The battery is brand new, got it and the alternator checked and they are working fine. I can't remember the number for the code but yes, it was for Throtle Position Sensor failure.

 

Dirty ABS sensors or loose wiring to them?

I have a '99 XJ8 with the same problem. After a replace the battery with a new one, the problem appears to be gone.

 

seems like we've narrowed it down to the ABS sensors. thanks for all the suggestions!
