Help, I broke a hose.
I was replacing my valve cover gasket and trying to take off this hose and twisted it then broke it. Is this a breather hose? can i just tape it over and drive the car while I go to the Jag dealer and look for a part? Please help. Where is this connected to?
Thanks Addicted2boost, where did you get the replacement part? Where is it connected to at the other end?
Rescue tape (a specific brand of self adhesive, stretchy and strong high-temp tape you can get at hardware stores) can work. I have not used it for more than 5kmiles on this breather tube, so I don't know how permNent it is in practice, but it does work if you can keep the tube fully connected w/o blockagre when doing it - this is not easy as the tape requires a lot of tension to stick, but it is possible.
After you fix it, you should remove it and clean the orifice with an appropriate size drill bit whenever you change the oil.
To remove it without breaking you need a special tool shown on page 3 in the PDF below or you can use small needle nose pliers.

Vector,
Depending on which part of the world you're from, as long as the lingo is understood, that's all that matters. However, you don't need to correct anybody here. After all, this post does belong to Maniqz.

Can't see why anyone would be confused by the
nomenclature of "valve cover" either.
If someone wants to call the round metal thing
enclosed a rim or a wheel, I can pretty well
figure out what he's talking about.

Of course, you guys are correct. You can call it whatever you want.
We do have folks here looking for "distributors" on coil over cars, "rockers" on cars that have none, and stuff like that, so I think correct nomenclature is important.
"My round metal thing is broken" would probably get you called out though, lol!

If your looking for gaskets on rockauto or jaguarparts they're listed as valve cover gaskets.
As well as the "cover" being listed as valve. Call what you want. Just saying..
