Question Oil leaking from 2 engine sensor sockets? What are they?

What are these electrical sensors on each side of the front-segment of the engine block? Should I be concerned about slight oil leaking out from each of them?

Not exactly on the engine block but the valve covers. Those are the variable valve timing (VVT) solenoids and a simple 'O' ring replacement will solve the problem.

Not a critical issue, only messy. Wipe it off and spray the remaining with some brake cleaner and it will be good for a few months.

Thank you

If I do nothing about it until the summertime (besides occasionally topping of the oil), will anything bad happen?

I've got some mission-critical 1,500-mile drives to do and am afraid to mess with a working engine prior...

Nah .... you're good to go.
As test point said, it's just a minor cosmetic issue.
Happy motoring!

Any idea what o-ring size to use?

(and yes, it's taken me 21-months to get around to fixing this, lol)

They are specific for Jaguar. The part # is
AJ82856. I recently saw them at AutohausAZ for about $5ea. Go to the dealer and they are proably $40ea.

Thx - FYI rock auto is slightly cheaper than autohaus after accounting for s/h.

Trivial question, but to remove the sensors to access/change the o-ring, do they unscrew with regular full threads like a spark plug, do I do a partial turn (like 90 degrees) on them then pull out or something else?

You DO NOT remove the sensors (actually solenoids) to change the seals. Just unplug the solenoids, and pry the lip of the seals straight up with a small screwdriver, working your way around a little at a time. Be sure to clean the dirt off of the solenoids before refitting the new seals.

Glad I asked, lol - so is that the seal ring visible in the photo?

After 22-months of procrastination, I just swapped both rings and cleaned the oil off the engine in a total of 7-minutes, lol. Very easy job.

FYI, to anyone needing to mess with the solenoids, there is a tiny tab at the top of the electrical connector just over where the wires attach to it, depress that and the plug removes easily.
