Default Parking Aid Sensor - what part number?

Does anyone know part number(s) for "reverse proximity sensor" in back bumper?

I imagine they are interchangeable with other car models.

Thank you.

Ok, let me make this thread to go somewhere...

Jaguar part number seem to be XR86401, but did not want to pay the $100 price and could not find any reference to equivalent non-jaguar part.

Could not resist braking the thing apart, inside there is module based on a chip by ELMOS, some research into that corporation's product suggest that today equivalent to that chip would be "E524.03 | Digital Ultrasonic Parking Assist" but found no other info.

Not able to find anything else I decided to try FORD REVERSE BACKUP PARKING SENSOR 4F23-15K859-AA / 3F2Z-15K859-BA, that is good for 79 ford models and has the same look and feel. $12.94 on ebay.

I just got it in mail, put it in and as far I can tell - it fits and works as good as the original. Did little test waving objects in front of the sensors - this sensor acts like others, no difference. Hope it does not kill the module...

The end :-)

Hi NJ2003XJ8,

Thanks for figuring out the Ford proximity sensor cross-reference. You've just saved a lot of owners a lot money!

For future reference, a great source for part numbers is the Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC), which you can download from the main page of the X308 forum in the "XJ8/XJR 'HOW TO' quick links" thread. You then install it on your computer and can consult it for parts diagrams and part numbers even when you don't have an Internet connection. Online, a similar resource is the parts service of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (Genuine Jaguar Parts and Jaguar Accessories for Classic Jaguars from Jaguar Classic Parts UK).

Now, I've got to see if there are Ford equivalents for the front and rear parking sensors on the X350!

Cheers,

Don

Thanks Don.
While it looks like this sensor works, since I did not find any datasheets on these parts to compare, I suggest members wait for a few days just to make sure I do not come back crying that it caused a bigger problem. The chip that I think these sensors are based on does allow for some customization, but I do not think it can make a major difference.

Thanks for the part catalog references, and good luck with your search.

Thanks for the information: So how is it working out?

I have a dead sensor in my back bumper -- I took a look to see if it was a wire problem -- everything extremely clean.

I could not get the sensor apart == it looks like it is in two parts? Did not want to snap the small clip on the outer bumper colored part.

Can I just pop it out of the bumper - the whole sensor - or can you just take out the sensor part from under the bumper?

Thanks for any help!

You can pull sensor from behind the bumper (and leave the "outer bumper colored part" in the bumper). There is a metal clip/piece that is holding the sensor - you need to bend it away from the sensor (just a little while you are pulling the sensor out).

Sensor is one part (like in many pictures on the web). You can't take it apart any further without breaking it.

I would swap two sensors first to make sure it is the sensor that is bad.

My replacement works for me, no issues.

Thanks

Looks like the guy sells one sensor -- $12.00 ... I will order ... that way I have it in case it is not wire.

Looks like they go back to around 2001 on the Ford's - so I would bet it is the same exact sensor ... why would they design two systems? My 98VDP did not have them - so I bet thats about the times Jag started. Mine is a 2001

All the wires look good and the connector looked clean -- but I'm sure if I go and switch it out without testing ........it will be the wire!

I will report back when I do the switch!

It took some effort, but it was not a big fight. There may be two clips (opposite to each other), I can't remember for sure now. I just pulled it.

I did not measure the new sensor - but looks to be identical - I held it up to the old one. When I get the old one out I can make a better comparison.

Since the OP's works I am assuming that is not my problem.

The sensor's cylinder body slides into a matching cylinder shaped holder that clips into the bumper -- It goes in about an inch .. I think dirt around the sensor has "locked" it in.
