Default Removing the resonator 00 XJR

Is there a resonator in the XJR? I just purchased my first Jag, but it is at the dealership so I can’t visually see if it has a resonator or not. Asking, as if it does have one, I would like to have it taken out to open up the throttle sound a bit.

Please also share any other options to make the supercharger sound notes better.

Are you talking about the intake or the exhaust? If you want more supercharger noise, look at making a custom intake pipe, and getting rid of the resonance chambers. There are a few other threads on here about intake pipes, as well as pod filters and cold air intakes.

Many thanks for your input. I was talking about the exhaust. There is usually a mid-muffler/resonator used to keep the exhaust quiet, not sure if the 00 XJR has one or not. I had this taken off on my Mercedes and it really opened up the pleasant sound of the V8.

I will search on the intake topic.

If you want more supercharger noise, look at intake mods, if you want more V8 noise, look at exhaust.
Also, check the XK forum, they have the same engine and almost exactly the same exhaust, and seem to be a bit more enthusiastic about exhaust mods.

There is a lot of info out there, and a lot of conflicting advice.
I've heard the 'best' results are from simply just removing the middle resonators, and leaving the factory H-pipe and rear mufflers.
If you do end up doing any modifications, we'd all be grateful to hear what you do, and how it ends up sounding

it has a centre box and 2 rear boxes, removal of the centre and putting an x pipe in would be your answer.
Or buy a custom stainless system.

Hi Sean B - Many thanks for your inout. Is the you tube video with the resonator removed and the x pipe added or is it a bespoke set up?

It's a Paramount catback custom, as in the title...I've also added Blueflame F.I.A approved 200 cell hi-flo cats.

Get it breathing for noise.

I took off the rear ''mufflers'' which are actually resonators with a straight through design. Sound is a little deeper and nicer, nothing that will wake up the neighbors though. Other option is to delete the middle mufflers and decide which sounds better. I personally wouldn't mess with the center box... These are obviously the cheap easy routes. Catless pipes or high flow cats would be nice but more labor intensive and pricier.
