Default Replacing antenna mast

The antenna mast has been bent. Can you just replace the the mast and what's involved with the repair?

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ent-faq-48388/

that’s the best write up that I have found.

this is on my list next, so inquisitive if there is a better way.

the cat came with a replacement, so I didn’t have to buy it. But it looks like a total pita.

If the mast is simply bent, then it can be removed and replaced with a 14mm open end wrench!!!!!!!!!!!

IF you break the plastic drive cable, THEN the fun begins with assy removal and repair.

How on earth do you get the sleeve to slide into the base?

everything else was pretty much straightforward, but I cannot get the sleeve to slide in.

I’ve sprayed it with silicone spray, several times, but it won’t go in.

I’ve been wrestling with it for a good hour.

Did the old 2” tall sleeve come out with the old mast?

Make sure the shaft down inside looks clean. I have seen white corrosion form between the 2” sleeve and inside the shaft before. I have also used the old 2” sleeve with a new mast if it’s not mangled up also.

Never thought of trying the old sleeve. I will look inside the tube as well.

the old sleeve is intact. My old mast is not. Someone bent the old mast at Walmart. I was having problems of it going all the way down sometimes, and some asshat took advantage of that. Because of where it was bent, I pretty much had to cut the old mast apart with aviator snips, to get the nut off.

the new mast has a small lip on the very bottom. I can’t tell if the old one had this.

is the lip supposed to be there? It doesn’t slide into the tube more than 1/2” or so. Seems like it should maybe go further. Shrug.

I took apart the mechanism and cleaned it out, re-greased it. That is working smoothly now.

thanks

So I dug the bottom part of the old mast out of the garbage, it seemed to have the bottom lip. I mangled it, but pretty sure the lip is there.

first pic, shows the lip and an indentation about 3/8” up.

second shows that the mast will only insert to the indentation.

third shows the old sleeve, but it won’t go into tube at all.

what am I missing? I read so many posts. Watched the YouTube video several times. Or is this Uro part incorrect?

edit- I used a pipe cleaner in the tube. Found some black funk towards the bottom, but didn’t find anything solid.
going to uninstall it again so I can fiddle with the tube easier. Will update. I found a similar post that said there was a piece of sleeve embedded in the tube, but the old sleeve seems intact.

Took the mechanism apart again.

I can see through the tube fully. There’s nothing stuck in it.

part number is correct.

picture shows as far as it will retract. It fully expands.

the sleeve seems to stop where the bottom lip of the mast is. About 3/8” in.

seems to me that this lip is what is causing all the problems.

what if I ground it down just enough that the mast will drop into the tube.

the mast is supposed to drop into the tube, right? So closed, the mast sits flush with the body?

Hey Joe, I had a similar issue on the Duchess a while back. My wife had decided that she could listen to the
radio as she drove the car through an automatic car wash. Of course the mast was bent at about a 45 degree
angle when she brought the car home so I attempted to bend it straight and was successful save the fact it would
not retract fully, similar to what you are getting. Buying a new mast and installing it seemed to go without issue
for me, but I see others who have had poorly fitted antennae give them the same issue you are reporting

Hiya randy.

I found some posts online about people having problems with the Uro mast, but no one gave their solution

I ground most of the bottom lip off. Went right in and seems to be working fine.
