Ordered a set of new rear shocks. New Orleans downtown roads about killed these completely today.

Happy with that as combined mileage though.

I got sent lots of pics by the bloke running a sparkly stick over my XJR.

"oh 'eck" was the rough phrase I used... as here's one example & the driver's side seemed solid when I'd looked, the passenger side jacking point moved when I jacked the car up & that's why I took it in. I just asked them to check this side in case. So much for thinking the MOT would be cheap this year....

Hooli, we’ve had other past members in the rust zones that had welding performed on their car and then the electrical issues started showing up. This might be too late to mention but, I’d have the battery disconnected along with module’s unplugged. Just a thought.

Cheers for the warning. I believe the battery is disconnected, but not sure on the modules though. He has welded this car before without any electrical issues, so hopefully follows safe enough procedures. I'll find out Tuesday as it's due to be finished then.

Did the other side. Rides real nice.

Car rewarded me by killing the water pump.

Wink Wash/Wipe Tubing - 3rd Time!!

I put on a replacement windscreen wiper tubing on my 2001 XJ8 Purdy Cat . . for the 3rd time.

First time (a month or two ago) was an epic fail as I figured out how to re-thread it through and along the wiper arm . . then made the rookie mistake of cutting it (too short) with the wiper in its resting position. When it rotates through its arc . . yep . . pulled the tubing off the feed nozzle. Did it again (but apparently) left too much "spare" and had a "hoop" sticking up . . but it worked. Coupe of weeks ago managed to trap the "hoop" closing the bonnet (hood for you guys) and strain the tubing, which split in the cold we had in UK last week.

This time I'm hoping I've got the middle bowl of porridge and got the correct length on. All this hassle is caused by the modern tubing being 1) plastic and 2) having a bigger outside diameter than the original rubber tubing. This slightly bigger size makes to a real hassle to slide it up through the rotor and the wiper arm . . Phew!!

I'm chuckling at that, it's always the easy jobs that are the most difficult to get just right isn't it?

"You're one sheared bolt away from a ruined weekend"

Great, now I gotta pull everything apart to try drill the remains of the water pump bolt out.

I got my XJR back from the welder last night, which means it's missed the garage booking for new spring pans in time for the MOT. So it might be off the road over shitsmus...

On it's return the light doesn't work on the temp display, so I had to get my torch out to set it before driving home. Anyone know the type of bulb & were to order them in the UK? I might as well have a spare ready before taking all that gubbins out of the dash to get to it.

(Misread, 5w capless in the engine temp gauge).

The diaplay panel takes 2 1.6w pea bulbs. I bought the bulbs themselves, you pull the holder out with a flat blade screwdriver, then you can un-thread the legs and feed a new one in the same way.

I ordered a box of them on Amazon. Search T3 grain of wheat bulbs.

T2 0.9w bulbs do work but they are a bit dim (those are for the buttons)

Undo the two screws on each side, squeeze the plastic in and the back pops off. Remove the clear plastic film. The two brown bulb holders are for the screen.

The bulb assemblies twist counterclockwise and then pull out.

There's 2 crimps holding the tail of the lead in. A sharp edge can pick them out (just pressed in)

The leg unfolds.

The blue cover just peels off with care. Replace with a new bulb, legs cut to the same length and reassemble.

Seems like I suggested replacing a water pump to one of our forum members in here while the engine was out but, I can’t remember who it was.

Not a clue!

Pretty sure the thermostat is stuck though, the old pump is mechanically good still despite being a plastic impeller. Glad I changed it though.

Bought the tools to try get that stud out. I'm going to see just how bad I can make my weekend...

That's great, thanks Phil. I'll go look on ebay etc to order a few of those bulbs in advance of doing the job.

Half temped to look at the gearshift lighting too, but I've always heard that & the buttons behind it are more hard work. Besides the car is utterly filthy & I need to spend a day cleaning it, it's never looked anything like this bad inside since I got it, it's nearly brown & meant to be a creamy colour. When he had the interior out he obviously didn't cover it to keep the workshop filth from grinding etc off it.

Update, got 10 with the holders on ebay for £5.49 & they should be here next week. To get the bare bulbs meant waiting 3-4 weeks for delivery to save £2, which really didn't seem worth it.

Much harder to do, fiddly pain in the rear task that needs the tiny little 0.9w bulbs and a soldering iron.
