I brushed 3" of snow off the XJR to go food shopping.

Added a sub to finish off the radio.

Adds the bottom end the mids in the doors just couldn't create. That works.
Don't got it dialed to buzz the license plate. Just enough to make the bottom end audible over the road noise.

It's 27c here right now. I've got the aircon on.
Tomorrow is meant to be -2 so no telling what's next. Air and heat both work though so that's a bonus.

Driving home, the fuel pump died.

Limped to my house, idled it to plug in the diags (left bank running lean) and finally it stalled and died. Odd. Was running fine until I stopped at the red light a mile from the house.

Bridged the pump relay, and the pump made a very sad grinding noise then stopped.

Do not relish taking the tank out.

Phil

Look it up for a 98’ XJ8. Try not to run the fuel tank under 1/4 in order to keep the pump cool.

I have a spare pump, I ran this one because it started working fine. It's done 3000 miles already. Pulled up to a red light on the way home, sat and idled, went to pull away and it coughed and sputtered.

Sub probably stirred up trash in the bottom of the tank.

I guess I'll be pulling the tank out (yay....)

There's a job to look forwards too!

Now await all the posts saying cut a hole in the parcel shelf instead.

Looking at the filter, I want to pull the tank. There's no cleaning via the parcel shelf.

I pulled the tank on the Duchess when my fuel pump gave up the
ghost. It is absolutely unbelievable what nonsense can accumulate
Pulling the tank is a very wise choice.

When my pumps were done I paid someone to pull the tank, I don't like cutting holes in cars I plan to keep.

The parcel shelf already has a sizeable hole cut into it for the sub, but there still just enough metal there to make pulling the sender assembly difficult.

I think that I should be able to get better access pulling the left hand muffler off so I have better access to reach in and pop the pipes out.

I cleaned with WD 40 contact cleaner the circuit board of one of the key fobs, that did not work. Before cleaning, none of the buttons responded. After cleaning, everything works perfect, except the trunk open button, which requires some effort. Will leave it like that for the moment.

I also adjusted the CD charger cover, that was dislodged and prevented the CD changer from ejecting.

Try isopropanol alcohol, you need zero residue on the contacts. Wipe the backs of the buttons too, I find as they get old oil leaches from the rubber & contaminates the contacts. I have to do mine every couple of months to get black deposits off so the work.

Rubber contacts loses their conductivity in time. New replaceable pads are sold with the special glue. Or solder buttons to the pcb.

All the cheap aftermarket fobs I have use tactile buttons on the board, maybe get one of those and swap out the case?

She's been off the road for two years...
New knock sensor - got the wrong one at first (longer) and got low voltage code.
Right sensor works now though.
New coil on plug thing. Bit smoother now.
New fuel pump.
(New soldering to ABS module too - last done in 2019)
Such fun in mid Jan!
MOT next.
Needs a scrub too though.

Re the fuel pump change via tank out....

Try dropping the diff a few inches by removing the diff retaining bolts.
That inch or two of extra room really works. (got that tip on here btw)
It's the foam that gets in the way that makes it a bit harder too.
A long pry bar helps push in the disconnect tool.

Appreciate the tip. I am waiting for this cold weather to pass us by, and for whatever sickness the children dragged home from school and kindly passed along to me.

I can clearly see the quick connects, just being able to reach them directly is a challenge.

From the horizontal character line/crease up she's doing a good imitation of a Tesla truck...
