Yes. you can test with a piece of tape over the sensor on the back of the mirror. Lights should pop on permanently if you have that button pressed in and the green lights on. I just leave my tape on it so they're always auto on and off so I don't forget to turn my lights off when I get out of the car and run my battery down.

Now if I could only get the AC recirculate mode to always stay on so I do not have to smell people smoking marijuana in traffic. That's a whole different struggle.

I permanently put tape there so my lights always auto turn on when I start the car. Then turn your knob and see if the mirror gets darker or lighter.
Nice idea but the physical mirror is faulty. There's a kinda oval shape visible in it that's tinted differently to the outside & optically different as you can see a break in the reflection.

The autolights work, not that I ever use them.

Drove the car to work and back today. First leg, a mile, no airbag light.
Journey back it came on about 30 seconds after starting the car.

Strange fault. Think one of the modules is going weird?

I wonder if you've knocked some connection when you had the seats & stuff out for the stereo? there's airbags in the seats after all so if you moved them about to get the carpet up that could be it.

I only pulled the rear seat cushion up, the front seats stayed in place. I used the old wire to pull the new one though.

However the steering wheel harness might be the issue, it no longer moves the steering wheel to the memory location, though it will move in all directions on the joystick.

Ahh related to your auto-wipe issue then?

Do stored codes say which airbag? I'd assume they would.

No codes stored. Just light.

How odd, you'd expect a code wouldn't you?

Yes. However, the rather variable frequency between ignition on and light appearing suggests the fault also isn't being logged.

Other members have had an intermittent airbag light on the dash (not flashing).
Sometimes, it turned out to be the connector beneath the front seat. The connector
had slipped partially out of the clip on the frame of the seat so that the light would
come on for no apparent reason. Perhaps pulling the wire also pulled something else.

I'll check those connectors, both sides. Looks like the seats have to come up for that task. I'll put some deoxit on them and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Phil

Carefully added all the details my code reader needed and polled the SRS module

I presume that's the main airbag module in the dash? Odd the pretensioner is giving a fault also.

No. it is passenger's SIDE airbag. Not passenger's side. Side airbad is right side of the seat backrest. I can not remember that has the seat bucle lock the pre tensioner or has the roll it. If the lock has it. Both wires goes through the seat connector. Do you have a yellow loose connector under the seat?

Pretty sure the pretensioner is in the inertia reel.

It does have a yellow connector underneath the seat. I'll have to pull the seat up and check all the wiring there.

That code is horrible grammatically. Thank you for setting me right.

Glad to see they do report which airbag at least, there's a few to chose from after all.

Been driving it too much to pull it to bits.

Also didn't pull the chairs to do that

Battery off. Seat undone. Tilted back.

Cleaned all the connectors. That got rid of the side airbag high resistance fault.

The pretensioner short to battery is still there though - that's an oddity. I guess I'll have to pull the trim panel off and check the wiring.

I'm doing some looking and the pretensioner is part of the buckle assembly and not the inertia reel?

Edit: No, that's just a short length of solid wire rope.

Phil

Today was devoted to replacing the microswitch in the drivers door latch. What a PITA! But it's done now, and the new switch works beautifully. Now only have to wait for all of the cuts to heal, and I'll tackle the failed microswitches on the passenger-side doors. Nice to have the courtesy lights working at night, at least from the doors on the driver side.

After the microswitch, I dyed the front seats. Only the outside bolster on the driver seat was showing wear, but I did both fronts so they'd match. I used the product from AutoLeatherDyeSales.com. I've had great outcomes on previous cars with their products, and it's easy to use.

I'm fixing to take the B pillar trim off the car on the passenger side.

Is this the connector for the seatbelt pretensioner ignitor?

The Jaguar manual shows no detail and doesn't mention any connector in the removal and reassembly procedure.

Phil

Edit: Got the trim partly pulled off, need to remove the upper buckle. Ran out of daylight and warmth. There's a yellow connector held in by tape there, from looking inside with a flashlight
