Default When did your transmission fail?

Hi everyone,

Another thread got me thinking, how long does the average 5HP24 last?

My X5 went 110,000 miles, or 175,000 km.

My XJ8 went approximately 100,000 as well (it was rebuilt before I got the car at 125,000 miles. )

For the purposes of the poll , it will be in miles. For my fellow metric folks, 100,000 miles is 160,000 km.

Thanks

Mine was overhauled reportedly at ~ 107k miles. Report was the typical A-drum failure. I picked up the car at 120k miles and it's still working four years later at 191k.
It is in need of fluid flush as it has some "hunting" issues. It can't seem to find a spot to settle into in 4th or 5th under light load.

Apparently you can only vote once, so my 2nd car doesn't get recorded.

Oregon Jag, sorry about your issues. Mine is a very smooth transmission (in both the XJ8 and X5). I actually prefer it in some ways to the Mercedes one in the XJR.

I seem to replace fuel pumps and forward drums at about 100,000 miles.

I have a 1999 X308 (103,000 miles) that I know nothing of the trans (other than I did the fluid/filter change) but I did replace the fuel pump.

My 2001 had a failed 'A'drum at 103,000 miles and it now has the 'transpartstech' reman unit installed. (no fuel pump replacement YET)

I have (2) 5HP24s with replaced drums IN STOCK so I am ready if the 1999 fails.

(YES BOTH ENGINES HAVE THE TIMING CHAINS, GUIDES AND TENSIONERS REPLACED)

So, mine has not failed with 185,000 miles. But I checked the last box so I could see the results!

Hmmm, only 12 people so far, but I'm surprised. I would have though the 2nd option would have the highest numbers.

The previous owner on my 2001 VDP had it rebuilt at around 54,000 miles, so I'm assuming it failed or was causing problems.
