if you havev the check engine lit up, switch the car off and then turn on the ignition but don't crank or start the car.
On the panel to the right of the steering wheel you'll see a button labelled VCM. Press the button and a code will appear in place of the mileage display.

make a note of the code and repost starting a new thread. This thread is really only for the JDS stuff and you don't really need one of those!

Hello Jairo,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

I have moved your post to start your own thread so your specific issues can be addressed here. Please let us know what code you find when you follow Larry's instructions. Diagnostic Trouble Codes appear in the form of FF or Fuel Fail and a two-digit number, such as FF13 or Fuel Fault 24. Let us know what code you have and we'll try to help.

In the meantime, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.

Cheers,

Don

The S91_AJ6 4.0 Engine Management.pdf is available on the internet for diagnosing 4.0 engine faults.

Search jagrepair.com and you will find it.

So read speed sensor fault - incorrect signal voltage

full explanation in the engine management.pdf, page 116

Hi Jairo,

The diagnostic procedure for FF68 is on pages 116-118 of the manual Bob mentioned, which you can download at the link below:

Jaguar AJ6 4.0L Engine Management System / OBDI Diagnostic Guide S-91

I believe that on your 1992 the road speed signal comes from a sensor that reads the rotation of a rotor or reluctor ring on the left differential output shaft. The electrical connector for the speed sensor is in the trunk/boot, behind the carpeted bulkhead trim panel. To access it, you will need to remove the spare wheel/tire and jack. The connector is black with four terminals. You can find the wiring schematic on pdf page 31 of the Electrical Guide, which you can download here:

Jaguar XJ40 Electrical Guide 1991-92

Cheers,

Don

I think the sensor is located on the top of the left rear wheel hub - (on my 94 that's where it is) they usually break if you try to remove them so go easy and check all the wiring first. There is only one and it will be on one wheel hub. They are expensive!

If I recall correctly, on the '93-'94 cars, the vehicle speed signal comes from the ABS wheel speed sensors via the ABS module. But on the earlier cars, the vehicle speed signal comes from a separate sensor on the left differential output shaft/halfshaft/axle. The sensor may be mounted on the subframe or the side of the diff:

The reluctor wheel is on the left halfshaft, Part 5 in the diagram below:

Cheers,

Don
