I just acquired this car from the same owner since 1992. It has been sitting in his climate garage for 2 years not running because he simply aged out of it. Before I throw a battery in it (old one left connected) and turn the key, is there a suggested process to start this after its been sitting? I plan on putting 5 gallons of fresh gas in each tank, as its not fresh smelling. All feedback is welcome.
the gasoline has probably turned into turpentine, so it might be better to drain the tanks before adding fresh gasoline.
to try to turn the engine on, place the shifter in 1st gear, then turn the ignition switch as if to start the engine but hold it for 4 seconds then back to off.
the idea is to prime the fuel system.
Do this 4 to 5 times, you should be able to hear the fuel pump whinning or buzzing every time you hold the switch in the START position.
then return the shifter to PARK and try to start it.
Be very careful when the engine starts to let it run slowly to allow the oil to circulate, especially around the cam boxes in the cylinder head. A two year layoff can cause valves to be a bit sticky in their guides and possibly be lazy closing. I bent a valve this way when restarting after a prolonged engine rebuild.
Hello, Tom,
What a Lovely example of a very Dignified old Classic.
After you get it running well enough, take it out and Drive it! It will thank you.

This worked perfectly! Thank you for taking the time to respond. Runs extremely well and drove it home today.
Great looking unit.
Are you guys in the US allowed to change the outer headlights to the 7" units? This improves the looks a hell of a lot IMO, but maybe your transport beaurecrats are crazier than ours "down under".
Example: The BMW Mini, when arriving in Oz, wasn't registrable without the tacho & speedo positions reversed, ie NO tacho in front of the driver.
Sanity has since prevailed.
