Default A/C Component Change?

1975 Series II - I have my dash out and am cleaning up various PO mis-steps. I noticed this last night. It looks like a PO has unplugged a previous version of something and installed this white cylinder unit. It's labeled CLIMATRON and has the same plug a what's attached to the yellow thingy. Any ideas as to what it is and what it does?

Thanks, Bill

that cylinder is a replacement a/c Amplifier made in Australia and sold by John's Cars in the USA. The old amplifier was left in place because they are almost impossible to remove.

the factory amplifier is buried deep behind the radio in a straight line towards the firewall and clamped in place with a sharp steel bracket that slices through skin. Ask me how I found out!

I've not had the "opportunity" to mess with that feature.
but, each time, I get under the dash, I empathize with the guys at Coventry that built them. Teeny screws, etc.

And, I removed the bracket on the firewall that the relays were. secured to. The teeniest of a bolt and nut. More upside down and twisted body to get it out!!!My body that is....

Carl,

Contortions!

I wonder what it took to build just ONE XJ-6. These cars were built by hand, no robotics.

Mhh....I was experiencing problems with the original part and was thinking of changing it for this one....

The airco would randomly choose a temperature....mostly full heat....
Fiddled around with the controls until the system went to full cooling mode and pulled the inline fuse.....nice and cool interior now ;-)
