Default Looking for part CAC3762

I am looking for a NOS or reproduction in-tank fuel strainer CAC3762 for an XJ6 series III. You remove the big plug on the bottom of the fuel tank and up in there is a strainer that keeps the big chunks out of the fuel system. It slides onto a metal tube that is 1/2" in diameter. I ordered one from the parts house with the three initials in front of their name but the one they sent me is for a 3/8" tube and they said that’s the replacement number and the only one they carry. All the other Jaguar parts companies tell me that the part was discontinued a couple years ago. Anyone have one they would be willing to sell me? Thanks for your help.

That's strange. I just received two filters from that company and as I do not have the old ones out, I assumed they are correct. Just checked the new ones and the pickup tube opening is 3/8th" also. But, it looks as if it can be opened to receive a 1/2" tube. They must sell a ton of these and so they should be aware by now if there is a fitment issue. I just popped the "cap" off the new ones and the opening readily expands to a nice snug fit in a 1/2" drill shank, so they will work on a 1/2" tube.

Thanks, Ian, I didn't know the cap came off. When I discovered the difference in diameter I called them and they said to drill it out. I was concerned that the drill shavings would get stuck down in the mesh. Now that I know the cap comes off I can drill it out and rinse all the chips off. For what we paid for those things I'd expect it to fit without modification. I too ordered the original part number and they shipped what they said was the superseding number.

Jeff, There is no need to drill anything. The 1/2" pipe will deform the cap to form a perfect seal. Just push it onto the pipe.

If you are interested in filtering the gas you are draining from the drain plug, use a coffee or paint filter into the container/ receiver. I've drained and refilled my tanks quite a few times as my in-tank pumps aren't always very reliable. Although the brand new one from W or was it SGB has heald up well.
Just my 2-bits

Well …. Ian, you are either stronger than me or had more flexible strainers. I tried to push it onto the pickup tube in the tank without success. So I took it out and tried a 1/2" drill bit, still no luck. So I used a Dremel on it until I could get the drill bit in. Knowing that it came apart and just working on the “lid” made me confident I wasn’t going to wind up with shavings inside of the screen. Anyway, I got it in and back together. The good news is that the big rubber gaskets that fit on the brass plug only cost 86 cents. Thanks for your help.

Geneo, unfortunately my gas went all over the road as I had a big leak. At todays gas prices that was an expensive mishap.

I'll send a pic of the filter with the 1/2" drill shank pushed in, once I figure out how to attach it!

I just left the strainers off, and rely on the two filters I have before the change over valve! I was originally using glass filters to see what was going on, and gave me the ability to take them apart and clean them, once it was staying pretty clean I switched to metal ones as it’s a bit safer!
