Hello Peeps, can you help me please re a speedo transducer issue. I could not find the answer by searching others' previous posts on the subject.
1. First question: Is the speed transducer part no. DAC4569 the right one for my car? It's a late 1989 XJS 3.6 manual. Just to be clear, it's not the curly wurly speed separate sensor I'm talking about here (which you can't buy new any more), it's the transducer I'm talking about (a new part that I bought recently)..
2. Second, if DAC4569 is the right part for the car, where abouts is fitted? I know it's on the rear axle somewhere but an engineer working on my car right now can't find it and is adamant that mine isn't the type that has a Transducer anyway. I don't agree with that; I believe its the issue that stopping my speedo and trip computer working (yes I have had all the dials out and cleaned them behind, not that they needed much of a clean being in amazing condition in the first place).
3. If the DAC4569 is the right part for my car, does anyone have any pictures or a video or similar that I can pass on to the engineer?
SPC RTC9900CA shows DAC 4569 as correct up to VIN 144262 and mounts to the transmission. After that VIN part DBC 2632 replaces and mounts to the rear cover of the Diff. There was a speed warning system that mounted near the diff. and triggered off a tab on the input yoke. Good hunting.

Thanks but I'm even more confused now. DAC 4569 is the Transducer and DBC 2632 is the Speed Sensor. You seem to be saying that from VIN 144262 onwards XJSs (my 1989 XJS 3.6 manual is VIN 164626) were only fitted with the Speed Sensor and had no separate Transducer. Am I understanding correctly? If so, the reason I'm even more confused is because I thought all XJSs from at least MY1987 were fitted with Transducers. Certainly, the DAC 4569 Transducer that I bought was advertised as that for XJSs up to MY1991.

And just to add: I've seen pics on the net of Transducers fitted to 1989, 1990 and 1991 XJSs (although they were all V12 automatic cars only). I hope you can help; I really need to get the speedo working by Monday.
Matt, my 4.0 manual XJS (VIN 180034 built 6/91) has the DBC2632 speed sensor on the back of the diff. I suspect your parts supplier “thinks” that the changeover was around VIN 179737 when the facelift model appeared. Others make that mistake too, eg. Rock Auto with brake parts.
Thanks ever so much to Coventry Foundation and MKii250 in Canada for your replies. I'll be sending the Transducer back to the supplier, then. The engineer working on my car (because electrics really aren't my thing) has just identified the problem as some little black box thing that's he's ordered today. It's the only thing to do with the speedo that isn't working. There's no fault with the dash nor the speed sensor, tested and correctly sending an electric pulse. Here's a pic of my car, owned 15 years now, she's in better than new condition nowadays and I intend to keep her for life, another 35 years, fingers crossed.
Thanks again.
