Annoying belt screech on start up
And yes here is that post🤣 My car screeches when starting. All belts were replaced a couple of years ago and the tension looks ok on them all. I haven’t tried a belt dressing yet but would be happy to give it a go. My worry is the crank pulley rubber damper thing breaking up which I have read about. Is this a common problem ? I have looked at the availability of a new replacement and it looks like nothing is available in the UK. Your thoughts as always are very much appreciated.

Start the car and spray some WD40 on the belts, one at a time and see which one stop the squeaking. Then leave it and see if it stops it permanently. If it does not, tighten that belt just a touch.
I do not think it will be a problem with the damper.

1991 MAY have the flat belt (multi V) for the alternator.
They be a PITA, and stretch, as do all belts, but they do squeal when cold, badly. Gregs spray is good.
Tighten that alternator belt, if its the flat style, just a touch.
The AJ16 engines were bad for it, and annual adjustment was needed to shut them up.

Cheers guys. Sound advice as always. Thanks for putting my mind at ease with the pulley. I will check all the belts when doing the CPS later. Oh and by the way the car passed the MOT with no advisories. The tester (James) commented on how clean the car is running with the emission tester showing 0.0% CO and 93ppm HC. The max limits for a pass are 3.50% for CO and 1200ppm for the HC.

If you you have the flat alternator belt, your harmonic balancer may have given up the ghost. Take a crayon or white out and draw a line from the inner part of the balance to the outer part. Start the car and after the squeal see if the lines still line up. If not, you need a new balancer. The bad news is that new ones are not available. The good news is there are companies that will rebuild your old one,
