This thing just bugs me. Is there any reason I shouldn't cut it off?

Is that a tow ring?

 

On BMWs they unscrew. Yes, it's a tow ring. Never seen one on a street XJS. Didn't even know the attachment point was there. Aftermarket?

 

It was fitted as an option on Jaguar sport cars.
Let me know if you don't want it...........

 

It's a standard part of the car on all 93-onward XJSs. It's the towing eye which is integrally welded on to the right hand bumper mount.

Precisely as Paul states. I would not cut it off because if you ever need to get towed, you completely ruin the spoiler getting it on a rollback.

 

That's what I thought. Just wanted to get some other opinions.

Roger: I'm a minimalist not a purist ;-) It's ugly so it's getting cut off! I've also removed the 3rd brake light they stuck on the trunk lid and the "Jaguar" and "XJS" trim pieces. I will keep all the bits so they can be reinstalled in 50 years and the XJS is going for 6 figure prices!

Allan: A Jaguar needing a tow! Never!!!;-)) But, if it ever happened it could be loaded on a rollback back first. No problem.

 

The tow ring on my '95 never bothered me. But that eye level brake light sure as hell does. Stuck on in the middle of the deck lid...kinda like a zit stuck on the end of one's nose.
