Angry doors wont unlock

I cannot open my 1995 XJS. When I press the key fob the car beeps as normal but nothing unlocks. Happens with both fobs. Same issue with both keys - keys go in lock and turn but car remains locked. Cannot get into trunk either and set the alarm off when trying. Left it overnight and tried again this morning. Still cannot get it. Any idea what would cause this?

I had this issue on my '91 XJS. I had to re-teach the security system to recognize the key fob remotes. I don't know how to do this on your car.

Hi Neil

I had and still have that very same problem with my Car of the same Year as yours, where I found the only way around it was to Unlock or else Lock the Passenger door first and then go round and Unlock the Drivers door

Hi Neil

Sorry I can't help you anymore than that but if you find out how to fix it, then please let me know!

There is a thread somewhere about opening the (boot) trunk if it is locked shut.
I think it involves removing the rear number plate and drilling a hole so that you can poke a screwdriver in to release the latch.
If you can do that you can get in and disconnect the battery, reconnect it and the security system might sort its brain out.
And then disable it.
None of the 5 XJS's that I have owned had a working security system and none got stolen.
Crooks probably had more sense.

1. Not sure about temps there, but my locks will freeze in place when it goes below freezing, especially overnight. Pouring hot water down the edge of the door melts it and allows me to open the door.

2. Both doors and the trunk will not let you unlock the door manually? That is odd...and scary. Nevermind the trunk access for now. The only other way to get in is to use a coat hanger and slimjim your way in. It's kinda easy when you know what to look for. The Rube Goldberg locking mechanism is seemingly needlessly complicated with a host of parts, but leaves plenty of room for a coat hanger.

When we have brand new dealer cars on the ship that won't unlock we just send for a scouser.
Probably not racist as scouse isn't a race.
I broke in to a brand new JCB onboard a couple of weeks ago (locked with keys in the ignition).
Thatcham Cat 3 Agricultural Alarm system; 4 minutes, some bruised knuckles and no alarm.
No damage to the JCB.

I think I know people who could find you very remunerative, tax-free work, Steve!
