Default front and rear speakers

will these alpine 6 3/4 speakers fit in the back and front speaker spots.

Alpine SPR-60
Type-R 6-3/4" 2-way car speakers — also fits 6-1/2" openings

93 two seater

I was thinking the pro level might be worth it.

thanks

I don't believe they will fit. The depth is irrelevant, but I believe you must use speakers with a "Cutout Diameter, or Dimension" of no more than 5".

This means that the Alpine SPS-610 6.5" speaker works, but many other 6.5" speakers will not.

You have 5.25" speakers right now. Any 5.25" speaker will work. If you want to upsize them, and I recommend that you should, find something with a cutout dimension smaller than 5".

thanks. I was hoping to go up a little in quality. They have these
Alpine SPR-50
Type-R 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers

which has a 4 and 5/8 cut out

is too small an issue?

No. Like I said, 5-1/4 will fit no matter what the make or model.

That cutout will definitely work.

I went with the SPS-610, and it *JUST* fit.

Personally, I'd consider the benefit of going smaller to stick with the TypeR, versus the basic physics of having a larger speaker.

I went with the larger speaker. Someone with more knowledge will be able to give you much better advice.

As for fit, you will have nothing to worry about with the 5.25"

I ended up purchasing the 5 1/4 r series for front and 610 for the back since they are behind the seats

6" will fit in the rear I made new mounts to fix the speakers to the car body. These are 6.5"

6" will not fit in the doors there is not enough room I think 5" might fit. Again mount them to the door.

I've seen 6x9s in the rear of coupes, as it requires only to cut the proper shape hole in the mason board.
Shallow 6.75s can fit in the doors, but, it will require cutting metal.

Do not concern yourself with the depth of a speaker. I know I measured at least 2.75" before you hit anything in there.

I do like what Warrjon did. If I ever decide to really invest in an audio system, I will follow his lead.

Good luck, take pictures and let us know how it goes! I think the mixed solution is great way to go.

I installed alpine SPR-17C speakers in the doors of my '92 convertible. They are considered 6 3/4" speakers. It's a snug fit. They are discontinued, but here's a link to the old crutchfield page and you can pull up the specs to compare diameter, mounting depth, etc.

Depth is not a big issue with the door speakers. The real issue is that the area of the inner door panel that the rim of the speakers screws into is recessed a bit, so anything too big and the speaker won't fit flush against the door panel. I used 3/8" mdf baffles between the speakers and the door panel to make it a little easier.

I think the actual size of the stock speakers for the '92 and probably the '93 XJS is non-standard, like 5.75" or 6". The previous owner had installed Polk 5.25" speakers in my car and those weren't a great fit on the panel.

Edit: To avoid confusion, when I'm talking about the door panel I'm referring to the door itself, after you remove the leather/vinyl outer door panel. On some older XJSs the speakers were attached to the outer leather/vinyl door panel but not on the later models.

Alpine SPR-17C 6-3/4" 2-way car speakers — also fits 6-1/2" openings at Crutchfield.com

I missed the OP's MY93 what I said regarding the front speakers is only relevant for pre-facelift.
