That looks a bit of a Bargain to me!

Is there anything special needed to wire it all up?

 

On the auxiliary fan apart from maybe having to change the connector plug on the OEM loom or the fans, it is just a straight connection.
If you still have the mechanical fan, then that has to be removed (which helps access a lot and saves a drive belt) and then the new fan/shroud goes straight in on the OEM shroud fixings. Then you have to rig up a fan switching/controlling electrical system for the main fan. Grant has an absolutely terrific system for this that I gratefully used (which essentially uses the OEM system) having messed about with all sorts of rubbish from the aftermarket for some years!
If anyone wants to know about it in detail, Grant has it on paper and so do I if needed.

That sounds epic!

I did try going electric once with a Twin Fan Setup from an XJ12 but it made the Car sound like a Sewing Machine and so I took it out and went back to a Mechanical Fan

But the Spall is such a whole New different Ball Game that I might just be Tempted to try it again, as you could easily pay that much for just an empty Fan Shroud

I'm also tempted by that electric setup for my pre-HE. But part of the reason for that is my car still has a yellow (white) fan. So, despite original (I like originality!) I need to change it for a black one at least, because, as we know, there is a dangerous weakness in the yellow fans. They deteriorate at the base of the blades where they protrude from the fan boss. You will inevitably see micro-cracking at this point. And when a blade lets go, you don't want to be anywhere near the car!! So that's why we tell owners to get rid of a yellow fan straight away (Jaguar stopped producing them for that reason) and fit the black one that Jaguar replaced it with.

I just noticed from your thread that you put a second-hand yellow fan in the car! So I would urgently do the same as me and either quickly put the black one back or maybe go for the electric setup?

That is true but I wasn't in love with the quality of the 'Black Fan'

But meanwhile Back At The Ranch so to speak, 'Greg' came across a 'Limited Supply' of 'New Old Stock' White Blades, which if I remember correctly were about £25 pounds each so I bought one! while at the same time fully aware that they were an inch Too Wide in outside edge diameter, or maybe I mean circumference 'I don't know' lol

Anyway it was too big to go in the Fan Shroud, so I got a Carpenters Marking Gauge and Scribed a line on each one of the Blades and then tried to Cut them down with a Hacksaw 'No dice too tough to cut' same result with a Jigsaw, so I had to go for the 'Nuclear Option' of an Angle Grinder, which was a Success'

And so I changed the 'Sketchy' old fan for the New one that I modded and it is working fine and Spinning True, as I put a Disco Strobe Light on it just to check

Having said that I here what you say, so I am 'Mega Tempted' to get this Electric Fan Shroud

Though this year the Cost of Petrol will be the least of our worries, as I have a feeling that Road Tax and Insurance will be going through the roof including Gas and Electric, while some other firms appear to be jumping on the 'Band Wagon' and seeing an opportunity to also put up their prices

And so I want to do that first and see how much is left over from my unlimited-limited budget

Just out of interest, I fitted the larger OEM fan Alex describes to a friend's XJS and instead of cutting it down I removed the shroud. It turned out to be the best cooled XJS I have ever come across! But I did adjust the gap to the radiator with a nice Louis the lathe King stainless spacer, so it was nice and close to the rad!

If you took the Fan Shroud out, where did you put the Electric Aux Cool Down Fan?

 

Excellent question! I bought an aftermarket fan and fitted it to the radiator with those "open ended cable tie" thingies that it came supplied with. It was a very tight squeeze as the larger mechanical fan took up loads more space than you might think, even though only 2 inches greater diameter. Herewith some pics of what i did, you can clearly see the cutout I had to make in the auxiliary fan backing to get it in and clear of the main fan blades!

Great set of Pics but I would be Paranoid if my Mechanical Fan was so close to the Rad, as if one of those Blades Clipped it, then it would be 'Game Over!' and is starting to bring back memories of how much a New Rad could cost

 

No worries Alex, the distance is plenty! It has been working brilliantly for over 6 years! An the owner is a real speed freak!
