Default Replacement brake accumulator

I couldn't find the original part for my 1994 XJS 4.0, at a reasonable price, so thought I would look at alternatives. Ordered a Bosch unit as fitted to AMG Mercs and Maybachs. It is a little smaller but screwed straight in. Took 32 seconds to charge initially and takes 23 brake pumps to empty it so I think it will work just fine. $85 Ebay.

kansanbrit,

Thanks for the info. It's always useful to know of alternative parts.

carsnplanes,

The brake system changed to a traditional servo type at VIN 198335, around November 1994.

Cheers

Paul

Default Update

Still working fine. Amazingly no bleeding was necessary.

Hi Kansanbrit

What sort of Tool did you use to unscrew the Accumulator, as I am going to put a new one on my Car 'Cherry Blossom'
How much of a problem was it to unscrew?

I used an allen key socket with ratchet and held the assembly from twisting by using a G clamp. Once it's held solid it just needs a bit of force to break it loose.

Care to weigh in with any longer-term issues with this accumulator? My 1994 XJS V12 is in need of a new one and finding a less expensive alternative would be nice.

you could also use this

from a 98 to 03 Cadillac. Goes the other way, next size up, but still fits and under a 100 bucks.

I have found that they are all over the agri machine business, combines and harversters and such. If you can find a decent industrial hydraulic supply house, they either have or could order one direct from the manufacturer.

I installed that GM part a couple of years ago on my '94 V12 and it's been working fine (touch wood, of course&#128513.

Good to know. I am always a bit apprehensive about using an alternative part unless others can say for certain that it fits and works properly.

It worked perfectly. I eventually exported the car to Paris, France, was working fine when it left me.

Nothing ventured nothing gained. I just ordered the GM 25676065 accumulator.

Total price with shipping was $107.00
