Default September 1975 Jaguar XJ-S on eBay (UG2W50351BW)

There is a rare September 1975 Jaguar XJ-S on eBay. Very early serial number UG2W50351BW, likely built in early September 1975. Unfortunately everything is painted over in brown and the engine is a swap. For someone with the right parts car, this could be a valuable project. I assume they are just kidding about the price. :-)

It has a lot of later bits on it Andreas, boot lid, TWR plastic add-ons, wheels, etc. The one early XJS really worth having, IMO, is a factory manual. If you turn up one of those, pawn the dog and buy it!

People want matching numbers nowadays. I am the same. My XJ-S will always keep it's V12. And if it fails, it'll be overhauled.

As Greg said, if the car wasn't a 'pick and mix' it might be worth something... As a V12 manual, all original, it would be worth rescueing!

I agree. The V8 conversion kills its value. Everything else could be replaced with original parts. I just like the low serial number.

Mathing numbers means it has the same engine number as it had when it left the factory. Any afterwards fitted engine, and be it the same year of engine, will decrease proper collecting value... And Concurs de Elegance or what ever it is called points will be sacrificed.

The only XJS factory manual I can afford is a book. :-)

I don't disagree. :-) Esp. that brown sprayed on everything reminds me not to follow too closely behind septic and manure trucks. But it still looks better than any Toyota Prius :-). Everything could be brought back to original with the help of a pre H.E. parts car, except for the matching numbers engine. Once it is gone, it is gone. So it might not become a concourse car, but could still be a nice restoration.

Someone might be interested in the project just because of the September 1975 serial number. Cars with serial numbers under 1000 are slowly getting rare. If it was close by and half the price, I would check it out. It is 262 cars older than my oldest matching numbers XJ-S. We could always launch a storm of lowball offers to help out. And then the actual prospective buyer offers a few hundred more than our lowball offers. (I and others have done that for a prospective buyer of a rare collector Saturn before. (Yes! People do collect early Saturn coupes.))

I'd be afraid they might take me up on it, and I'd be stuck with the turd!

Why does this color remind me of Jeremy Clarkson's XJS?

Like I said a Turd. A shiny brown Turd, but a Turd no less. After seeing the cobbled together workings under the hood, and the crappily installed stereo, and the rest of the interior. I can't believe they really want $3000.00. Ruff Ruff Ruff!!!
