Default smoke coming from one side of the exhaust

I just started my xjs and i went to warm it up and it is dumping smoke from the drivers side exhaust, and im hearing a ticking noise from the pasengers side of the head, dont know what it is. does anybody know what this could be? fearing it might be a bad head gasket.

Sounds like coolant is being burned.

How long did you run the engine?

When the engine was pulled did any coolant happen to get into the exhaust pipe? I've had that happen. Takes quite a bit of running before it all burns out....with lots of white vapor billowing in the meantime.

Or....coolant is getting into the combustion chambers

Cheers

Maybe you could put a little extra cooler under the front valence, horizontally. This is where, on advice from Grant Francis, I have put an extra gearbox cooler:

It would not need to be nearly as big as the GB cooler, obviously.

The cooler was not yet connected when I tok this photo!

The oil was clean, and the guy was driving it with a blown headgasket for quite a while plus it sat in my muddy yard in months of rain with the exhaust down. Ill run it today and see if it clears up

went and bought the headgasket sealer, and got out the valve seals i had and was all ready to fix it, then i started it and no smoke at all, must have been crap in my exhaust from the old engine.
