Fuel Filler Cap Warning appeared without reason

Steps Taken
1 Ignition turned on/off throughout the day----NO resolve
2 Gas Cap removed and replace several times though out the day numerous clicks----NO Resolve

3 Filled Gas Tank---NO Resolve
4 Replaced cap with Stant Non OEM cap---NO Resolve

Warning still appears. HELP

 

<Sigh> Get it back to the dealership... (and as a matter of fact, I think it is time to try a different dealership... My faith in your current choice is waning fast.)

I'm really starting to worry about you and your Jag... In my year here, I can only recall one other owner that has had this much trouble with his car (brand new XKR if I recall)... And he sold it within 6 months....

I certainly hope you can get these bugs ironed out quickly so you can enjoy your cat for the wonderful car it is.

Unfortunately, the emissions warranty for your 2009 XK gas cap is only 2 years so if that cap is bad replacing it will be at your expense. Gas caps do go bad; I had to replace one on my old MBZ600SL about 15 years ago at the outrageous cost of over $40!!!

I just checked the price for the Jaguar OEM cap online and you're in luck - it lists for only $14.70! 2009 JAGUAR XK Parts - Jaguar Parts Center - Call (800) 510-1401 for Genuine Jaguar Parts and Accessories

I'd buy a new cap from the dealer's parts dept. and try it. If it doesn't clear the warning light, I'd ask the dealer's service dept. for help. Hopefully, it might simply need to have that warning light cleared and reset.

Just a guess..........if you change the cap and the problem does not go away there's a good chance there is a loose hose that connects to the tank. From what little I know.......... the emissions system pulls a vacuum on the tank under certain conditions and then looks to see if the tank can hold that vacuum for a given amount of time. IF it will not hold that vacuum then it kicks a code.

I had this problem on a second hand van I own and it got resolved by me dropping the fuel tank and putting a clamp on the vent line that connects to the top of that vans fuel tank. No leaky no mo results in no more code being kicked. The code it was kicking was a 0442 I belive. Just saying a vacuum leak on the tank is what causes that code to kick on my van but most times it is the fuel cap itself leaking instead of other lines on the tank.

By the way, those places that do the emissions tests have a device that can determine if your cap is good or not. They take the cap off and put this device on the cap and pull a vacuum on the cap itself. They do this as a routine on cars that don't have the latest emissions equipment, like say a 1987 RX 7

 

Make sure to clear the code after you put the new cap on. Buy some gas and pray before starting car.

 

Bad purge valve ??

 

After diagnosis it was the fuel cap!!! Replaced gratis and code reset!! All is well again.

 

I need help, My fuel filler cap light is on. this has happen at least 3 or 4 times since I own this Jag. I take it to Jag and they charge me hundreds to fix it. Does anyone out there know what the problem is. I feel Jag is ripping me off.

 

I got the triangle signal, "pieton, meaning object or person ahead" you know the alert when the vehicule is equipped of front detector, but i don't have the option and either the left button going with....goto look on the book after and realised yes it exist but this xkr does not have it...

 

I have a 2010 XF which is 3.5+ yrs old and have had this problem appear. Dealer has tried to fix it 2 times. First time they replaced the cap, 2nd time they could not determine exact cause and just reset the alert. The problem has re-appeared in 2 days after the 2nd visit.

As the new car warranty will run out in a few months, I fear ongoing expense if this issue cannot be resolved during the warranty.
