Default ‘08 XKR Parking Brake fault

I have the Alcon brake package that I just completely overhauled. 4 new rotor, new Porterfield RS-4 pads, Alcon shop rebuild of calipers. Since I was installing new rotors I removed the Parking Brake and pads which I then turned the piston back fully with a piston tool (bent needle nose).
Everything went well and all new fluid after reservoir was drained using turkey baster. Bleed calipers, both bleeders many times than actually needed as I wanted the old out. But when I went to apply the Emergency / Parking Brake I received a ‘fault’ light on my dash. ‘Parking brake cannot engage’ at this time.

How do I get my parking brake to work?

Thanks in advance!

There's a trick to this. I'm pretty sure it's in the free service manual but it's been a while since I looked it up (had the same problem)

Assuming assembly was done correctly, here's the procedure for calibrating the parking brake:

Parking Brake Calibration

The parking brake system must be calibrated whenever the battery has been disconnected or has been in a state of discharge, or repairs have been carried out to the rear service or parking brake system.

NOTE:

If new rear brake pads have been installed, pressure must be applied to the brake pedal a minimum of five times prior to calibration of the parking brake system.

To calibrate the parking brake system:
1 . Place gear selector lever in 'P' Park position.

2 . Release parking brake cable tension to service position. Parking Brake Cable Tension Release

3 . Set the ignition status to 'ON'.
4 . Apply and hold the footbrake then pull up the parking brake switch.

5 . To release the parking brake, apply and hold the footbrake then release and press down the parking brake switch.

I recently replaced the rear alcon rotors as well. I left the old e-brake pads in there, but due to the thicker rotor, I had to turn the piston back in a bit - not all the way. I basically just turned it in until the gap between the rotor and pads matched what it was before. Took a few iterations of removing the rotor and half the e-brake caliper, but I think it worked out. Won't know till i start the car later this week.

Speaking of the brembo e-brake caliper .... does anyone know where I can get the anti-rattle shim?? Dealer tells me its PN C2C31196 but they want like $200+ for it. Where else can I find this cheap piece of metal?? If i can't find one I will probably just cut and bend one out of sheet metal myself.

What Sean said. Strange I forgot that I just unhooked the battery after doing the work. Oldtimers already???

Sean,
I never did disconnect the battery. I just split the EPB caliper to turn in the piston and dismounted it to remove the rotor. Reinstalled in reverse order on the new rotor.
I did install everything correctly. Only issue is parking break fault.
So if I understand this correctly, I need to disconnect battery for a minute. Reconnect then perform the procedure you stated.
Is this correct?
Thanks!

Sorry, to clarify, this is the procedure from the service manual. I don't think you need to disconnect the battery, just that you need to follow the calibration procedure if you disconnect the battery or service the brakes.

Default Success !

I followed the procedure as you had described. I did have to do it 6x I assume to ratchet the piston on parking brake caliper to where it had sufficient tension for a sensor could read before I recieved Parking ‘Brake’ light on display.
You can hear this process in a quiet garage.
Thank you Sean and Ranchero

you can set this fault when you turn in so far that the park brake motor sensor too much travel and will see this as a fault and set the warning. I usually pull up a little quickly on the park brake switch and then back down so it doesn't travel but a little bit. Then do again till you get it fully set. I you set the light do a hard reset on the battery so it says "set parking brake" again and repeat.
