Default 2008 XKR Rear Pistons for Alcons

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to buy pistons for rear Alcons, without replacing the whole caliper?

The issue is that both Jaguar and after-market parts specialists are telling me the pistons are not sold seperately. Basically, they are saying I have to buy new calipers.

This seems somewhat rediculous, and simply a way of extracting cash from people.

Would anyone know of anyone who can sell me the pistons alone, and if so kindly provide the details?

Thanks!

Is there a rebuild service in the UK that might be able to sell you the pistons only or at least rebuild your calipers. What happened to your pistons?

Thanks for your response. It seems they have coroded a little and started sticking as a result. Local independent Jag specialist reckons needs doing in next 3 months.

Just spoke to Alcon directly. They do sell pistons without the need to purchase the whole caliper. Problem seemingly solved.

I would consider finding a rebuilder . If the pistons are starting to corrode it usually means there is moisture in the brake system. Also there might be damage to the caliper bore. A good rebuilder would bore and sleeve the caliper and replace the pistons with stainless steel ones. Try searching your country. In the US we have a fairly good number of places that do the rebuilds . Also if the bores are not corroded then all they would need would be to hone them out . Sometime depending on where the corrosion is on the piston just a simple clean up of the surface should be OK and not affect braking.

It's almost standard procedure to put a sleeve in XKE calipers; but they are 50 years old of course.
Change your brake fluid ASAP, please..................

Cheers, Adrian

Glad to hear it.

Any chance you could share the p/n's or what exactly you purchased?

Pistons, seals, anything else?

I have this site saved which lists all the parts for the front caliper, I thought I had something for the rear saved but it might be of some use.

Out of curiosity, has anyone converted the rotors for the Alcon package to a semi-floating rotor? Or know of the part number for a direct replacement? I couldn't locate it in the supplied link.

This is the only source of floating rotors for Alcon cars I know of, yes they're priced per disc...

XK 5.0 XKR Disc (LH or RH) ? Floating (each) | Spires

Holy smokes. Thanks.
Glad I'm in Race Heaven, U.S.A. I'll have to make a trip over to Performance Friction and do some research. I'm sure they will a hat and rotor combo that may fit and save a little money.

Thanks for the link.

Caliper rebuild for both rear is about £650 total. Not bad at all.

Just waiting on a quote for new pistons, as if the callipers are otherwise fine I don't see a point in a complete rebuild. Told around £30 per piston. Obviously will need the sealing kit too.

Will update with outcome in the next couple of weeks, as I know there are others on here who have Alcons and this thread might be of use to people in the future.

If you make any progress on the floating rotors please let us know - I'd be interested for sure if they're cheaper than the Spires discs!
