Default Brake Dust.

Ok, did a bit of googling and all kinds of stuff out there. But I'd like the forum's preference.
Alcon brakes have ceramic brake pads and they throw dust like my kids threw glitter when they were little.

Wiping the outside spokes of the 20" Selenas, no biggie.
But the inside? Gonna require jacking her up or removing the wheels to clean.

Is there anything I can coat them with? Ok, I googled that, yeah there is a bunch of stuff from Chemical Guys rub to ceramic wipe on.

What do you guys use?

Akebono Euro Ceramic brake pads produce significantly less dust and help keep wheels looking much cleaner, but unfortunately, they only make rear pads for your '08 XKR, and I'm not sure that even those will fit your Alcons:

I have had good luck with the Chemical Guys Wheel Guard rim wax. They have a newer product that I haven't tried called HydroSpin Wheel & Rim Ceramic Coating that is on my list to try, but I still have a supply of the Wheel Gaurd on hand.

Cheers,

Don

I had the wheels on my F Type ceramic coated, stock Jag pads, I still had to use a brush to get them clean. I wouldn't do the ceramic again.
I just consider it to be part of the cleaning process.

@Circumnavigator I had my front and rear Alcon rotors and pads replaced when I had my worn front and rear suspension parts replaced. No more black brake dust, as I used Brembo ceramic pads.

I can't tell if there's any difference in performance, other than there's no black brake dust. There's still some brake dust, but it's tan and nowhere near as noticeable. It's easy to wipe or hose off that dust from my ceramic coated Selena wheels. I suspect that the Brembo ceramic pads are a harder compound than the relatively soft OEM pads, which might lessen the life of the rotors. Time will tell.

I bought the Brembo ceramic pads on eBay. I just looked again and found only rear Brembo ceramic pads. I don't remember the Brembo part numbers and hope they're still available.

Good luck finding them.

Stuart

I'm using Akebono Euro Ceramic pads on my XK, and they produce very little brake dust. Easy to clean.
As for getting the back of the spokes clean, there are some decent curved brushes specifically designed to allow you to clean the back of the spokes, inside the rim, and even the very inside lip of the wheel. I think I got mine from Griot's Garage. I'm pretty picky about having my wheels clean inside and out but there's no way I'm taking them off every time I wash the car. Wax or ceramic coating helps with ease of cleaning, but they of course have to be perfectly clean before applying.

A few months after I purchased my 2010 XK 12 years ago, I immediately replaced the factory pads with Akebono and Centrics. Brake dust reduced 90%. Stopping ability for me was only slightly decreased but worth eliminating the endless brake dust from the wheels as well as the body. I recently had the pads checked and they are barely worn after 15,000 miles of usage.

Dang saw the prices and got all excited.
Alas, I have Alcon brakes.
No inexpensive, low dust options for me.

Still open to ‘bite the bullet’ options for others with Alcon.

Wow, taking OCD to a new level! I can't understand this amount of detail work on a vehicle that is driven on the roadways, especially if the only way to see the back of spokes is to lay on the ground.
