Default Check engine light

Got this fault and the code says air flow. Replaced filter behind the wheel and the fault came back. I took my car to Jaguar Exeter NH and they replaced the sensors ($1200). The fault came back. They consulted with jaguar tech. Then replaced the air box. They said it was leaking. ($1300). The fault came back. So I’m $2500 into this and I still can’t get my car inspected. I’m dropping it off Monday. Anybody have any ideas?

P0101 has no extended codes. It is simply the following:

Check engine light-p0101.jpg

On a regularly serviced vehicle, a blocked air cleaner element is possible but not very likely. The most probable cause would be an air leak folowed by harness/connector fault and then MAF failure.

There's a line between fault diagnosis and guesswork. Accurate diagnosis leads to a successful resolution; guesswork leads to the Parts Department.

Three attempts with new parts and wrong each time. Ground fault or out-of-range MAF signal is looking like the next option unless they go straight for the jackpot and sell you a new vehicle.

+1 on dealership Technicians guessing on how to fix this issue.

Was there any recent work done to the engine that required removing any of the inlet manifold or breather hoses?

I would demand a refund from the dealer. You shouldn't have to pay for their incompetence and guesswork, since their diagnostic equipment, training and experience should have resulted in it being fixed the first time. Or the second. Three strikes...

If you paid with a credit card, you can dispute the charges if you don't get an acceptable refund from the dealer.

Just out of curiosity, is your external temp reading accurate on the display?

I find it absurd that so many people (including me) struggle with this issue and Jag still has no root cause and can't even troubleshoot correctly.

By their own accord the MAF sensor failure is the least likely cause .... yet its the first part they replace??? I agree ... definitely ask for a refund.

I'll be doing pinpoint tests soon to try and see if its a bad/failing circuit.

Seems like a re-occurring theme ... poor quality Jag electronics that can't last more than 10 years =/

It isn't the electronic parts that may be at fault in this instance. One question that hasn't been asked is: what is the battery voltage across the terminals with the ignition in the OFF position for at least ten minutes?

Many of the electrical 'faults' on the X150 are the result of low voltage caused by a failing or weak battery. If the battery doesn't have at least 12.6 volts, it should be replaced.

I believe the outside air temp sensors are inside the side mirrors...
