Weird Homelink Behavior
Been playing around for a few days off and on trying to get my 2008 XK homelink programmed. After numerous attempts with different procedures via Google and owner's manual I just couldn't get the buttons to reset by holding down buttons 1 and 3, nor could I get button 1 to program.
1. press button 1, red flash.
2. press and hold buttons 1 and 3, solid red for as long as I hold them.
3. hold button 1, slow flashing.
4. hold button 1 and remote button, slow flashing as long as i hold them.
I was about to give up and start looking for a new homelink module when I had a brilliant thought - try another button!
went thru the same procedure with button 2 and lo and behold I have fast flashing!
Flushed with success I figure give button 3 a try - same as button 1.
Anyway, went on to program the garage opener and after some weird behavior and a few tries it took the Jag's codes from button 2.
So, out of curiousity, anyone care to guess what's wrong with buttons 1 and 3?

There is a common issue in most of the manuals: the process should have been written clearer.
Also, that is an ‘07, are you certain it is compatible with the opener?
I did write this up some time ago… Homelink 1-800 is helpful too.
Firstly, despite the rumours, there is no need to clear all codes. You can just overwrite them at will.
Secondly, you need to “set a seed” in the unit, especially if you have cleared codes. This is wrongly titled “the pairing with a remote” in the guide.
THEN and only then you must continue with the pairing the car to the opener.
Cheers.

According to the manual you hold the two outer buttons down until it flashes red.
When I hold these buttons down it stays solid red, so I guess the answer is no, which is part of the stated problem.

Actually it's a 2008, and since I was able to program the middle button I have to assume it's compatible with the opener.

Amen to that! Took a bit of googling to figure out that "convenience mode" meant "Open the door, don't touch the start button".
Revival of an old thread......I paired my garage door, and girlfriend's garage door with a Genie garage door on my 2010 XK 13 years ago with no problems at all. Cleared 1 and 3 until the blinking light, and then held the 1 and 2 button with my genie remote and the flashing was immediate. I pushed the red button on the genie unit and ran to my car to press the appropriate buttons. NO PROBLEMS. Now.......fast forward 13 years, and the plastic button one in my car has the notorious wobbly loose condition. The tabs in the back break off. I did not want to get another unit, and I didn't want to pay to have my tech take it apart to hot glue the broken part of the loose button. I used the 2nd button instead, but the pairing would not work this time.....Instead of making this post longer than it should be, I went to Lowes, bought a new A23 energizer battery for the hand held genie remote, and bingo!....worked the first try. Word of advice. Make Sure The Battery In The Garage Door Units Remote is NEW!!!!! Makes a huge difference. Thanks all.

Remote control Homelink garage door opener technology has changed over the years, with newer models using rolling codes to thwart "code grabber" black boxes favored by criminals. As a result, the old Jaguar Homelink system might not work with a newer Homelink-capable garage door opener without using a "bridge".
