2001 XK8 rear fade disabled and rears sound terrible
So I've been trying to figure out what is wrong with my rear speakers in the 2091 XK8 convertible. The speakers are fine, I've replaced them. They sound like a mucky no music, occasional thump sound mess. No music comes from them. Then I read in 2001 the factory disabled the fade to rear option and they reccomend it should stay disabled. Mine was already enabled but to no avail.
Does anyone have the real scoop on all this mess with 2001 Xk8 convertible rear speakers? Something is wrong here.
thank you
Mark

Sounds like you may not be happy with the system as designed in the 2000 - 2002 MY. The alpine system uses the rear speakers as subwoofers which are only going to put out sound in approximately 20-100 or 20-200 Hz (i.e. very low frequency). So, they will sound like low frequency thumping, grumbling, etc, designed to support the midrange/tweeters in the front. There will be precious little evidence of midrange in the sound.

Yes. Perhaps I do.

Quick question: with no fade (i.e the fade is 0 or off, not to the front, not to the rear, centered), can you actually hear the rear speakers over the front speakers? Or can you only hear the 'muddle' when you fade all the way to the rear?
when the fade is not enabled, it is at center. Its never off. So yes you can hear in my car what is a muddy sometines thunk sound. Tge farther toward rear you take it, it phased out the front so there is basically nothing but thunk on heavy base. It's a mess.
Appreciate it. Just a note, if you don't like the behavior you are hearing, you may need to consider an aftermarket system. I have a strong suspicion that any 2000-2002 MY replacements will behave similarly. Good luck with it.

TY, I refuse to believe this comes from the factory sounding like that. It does sound like a hybrid mess though.
I have a 2001 XKR convertible - what yours is doing doesn't sound right. Perhaps you need to replace the amp as it sounds like something has failed leading to the noise you are getting.
Thank you
After all the help from many, it was definitely the Amplifier that had gone bad in the back. Now I have to decide if I want to upgrade the speakers. Thank everyone who helped along the way.

still not sure why I dont have tweeters in the back on the sides, with premium, but all good.

I found a factory amp. It fixed the problem.
