Default 2003 XK-8 computer issues

I have a 2003 xk-8 that keeps getting reject at the NJ inspection stations. the error is that the station computer sees when they plug in is the Comprehensive Systems Check, it will not reset. All other checks are good. Mech. says keep driving the car. I do, put over 600 miles on it and I keep bring it back with same issue. Ideas anyone?

I would assume they are reading a p1000 code, which means the emissions self diagnostic hasn't completed.

What sort of driving are you doing? The self check generally needs the car to be warmed up to operating temperature and driven at a steady speed for some period of time. A good length highway trip will normally take care of it.

The other explanation is that there is somehing preventing the check from running, but this almost always results in a trouble code of its own.

The other thing you might do is get an inexpensive code reader. These are useful in general but it will let you check whether the diagnostic check has completed and save you from going back to the inspection repeatedly.

Isn't a 2003 car allowed at least one monitor unset (in the relevant region)?

The car had been driven several hundred miles of mixed driving. Prior to that there was an issue with a fuel injector that put the check engine light on. It was repaired. At least 500 miles went on the car and the check engine light on again. This time it was a mismatch between the mass flow sensor and one of the injector sensors. Found that the air ducting had some holes; this was fixed and now no light. About 300 miles or so on this. As stated, mixed driving.

Jagv8, not sure what the law is in NJ. But they won't even look at the emissions until all of the computer shows it reset.

Talking Hard reset

Have you tried doing a hard reset with the battery? Take off the negative cable and touch it to the positive post for ten seconds. (read about it here on the posts) This resets everything back to factory. You will have to reset your windows and radio bass/treble/etc.

Do the hard reset in the emissions parking lot then run it through before driving miles on end to get it emission checked, might work for you, worth a try anyway.

Wouldn't that reset any driving cycles that had been successfully completed, thereby requiring all to be completed again before emissions testing could be done?

Talking Just a thought

I don't have to take mine through emissions so I don't have to deal with the issue. It was just a thought.

Even though I am English I know that most, possibly all, states allow at least one monitor to not have set. Generally you're not allowed codes but this is a case where there appear to be no codes - right? P1000 and P1111 will not be picked up as they are only pending codes which are always allowed.
