Default Alarm and no crank

recently bought a 1996 xk8 which the previous owner told me had suddenly stopped cranking and the alarm was going off. I only have one key and no fobs.

Having now got it the symptoms are

On unlocking the car with the key the Alarm goes off and doesn’t stop if the key is inserted into the ignition with 8 seconds.

The car will not crank but the dash lights come on.

The boot and petrol flap button do not work.

I am guessing this is the KTM.

So 2 questions.
If I buy a mongoose cable and SDd IDS v130 will this help with diagnosing ?
And if it is the KTM will IDS v130 be able to program a second hand KTM to my ECU ?

Thanks

First step for nearly everything in these cars is to check and/or replace the battery.

Both the boot release solenoid and the petrol flap solenoid are connected via the Security and Locking Module in the boot. Does the central locking work? Does the boot light come on when you open the boot?

To answer your question, yes IDS will help in diagnosing and is essential if you need to do an immobiliser setup. In the meantime I would read the codes using a dongle/Torque app and check you have power and ground where you are supposed to - check the fuses and relays before deciding you have a dead module.

Hi only code that comes up is p1367 which looks like communication problem between ECU and abs module.

any thoughts ?

You should always use the forum search when you are looking up a code:-

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...7-code-246247/

If I were you I'd open the ECM and look for any leaking or bulging capacitors. Lots of threads on the forum.

I now have IDS and the codes are numerous including

Anti lock braking C1155 and C1233
Restrain control module - No communication
A load of climate control ones

Engine control P1260 - I think this one is significant but do not really know how to further on this diagnosis
Instrument pack - U1260, U1261, B1238
Transmission control P1799, P1731, P0790, P1798

Where do you think I should go first ?

thanks

First thing is to delete all codes and see what come back. No point chasing a code from history.

P1260 is the key is not recognized.
Use one of you other keys and the engine will likely start!!!!!!!!!!!
