Default Any ideas on this engine clunking noise?

If anyone has any ideas on this noise I'd appreciate it. I used my stethoscope but the noise just travels through all the metal so I can't pinpoint it. The last thing I did on the engine was change the power steering pump, the noise did not come immediately, that was a couple months ago.

Scott,
Try taking the serpentine belt off. It's OK to run the motor briefly without it.

Great test, sounds find without it. Any next steps. my guess is a faulty power steering pump since that is relatively new. I don't look forward to redoing it.

I remember a TSB and checking cars for the bolts when I worked at the dealer.

Maybe the bolts are loose from the PAS pump replacement?

Motocarman, what a memory!

so turning each item on the belt by hand does not give me a clank. The power steering pump, seems nice and tight, but i did notice something odd. The rotation seems a bit elliptical. The assembly is not loose, so I don't know how this could happen.

run it belts off

sounds like something’s getting hit in the timing case. guide material will do that until it gets crushed and falls into the pan

it sounds fine running it without the belt off, are you saying that running it longer without the belt on could solve something

it eliminates if it’s belt drive related or not

The pulley looks to be off-centre. Weird, but that could càuse the tensioner to rattle as it deals with the resulting slight belt run length variation (QED)
