Can you identify this noise from my A/C
I have been getting this noise intermittently when I turn on my air. It happens with or without the A/C on. Anyone come across this before? I am having trouble tracking it down.
Well,
As usual, the first thing to check are fuses and relays, then move onto connections and wires.
A lot of good info in the thread below

Access seems to problematic. I hope it’s a simple fix for you.

Thank you for your reply. That is a decent size job, I would hate to do it if I am not confident that it is the issue. It requires at least one trip to the mechanic to evaporate the system. I would have not described it as a whistle, I am not sure what word to use. Have you ever come across this issue?
Scott,
Sorry, I haven’t had this issue on my XK8, and it is an odd noise from the cabin blower.
There’s lots of fans and actuators in the blower unit, so before tearing it out, always better to check the easy things first like fuses, relays and wiring.

I've never dug further into it, for fear of the whole dash thing and the complexity of the HVAC system. I simply assumed that sooner or later (once the heater pump failed) I would pull apart most of the upper sections of the the LH rear side of the engine bay,,, throttle body, cam cover, reservoir tank and associated hoses and change the pump.
Could be something funky with one of the small vacuum actuators being a little confused at start up.
Again, for years and one start in 20 of the HVAC I get this sound and it hasn't lead to any trouble. I just turn off by hitting the power button and it disappears. That's jus me...

You can isolate the blowers by removing the associated relays (one for each), and there's an 'air conditioning isolate relay' in the passenger side (LHD) fascia fusebox.
According to JTIS 'The A/C Isolate Relay remains energized by the A/CCM for 30 seconds after the ignition is switched OFF to provide power for the A/CCM to ‘park’ the servos'.
I'm not sure if removing it just disables the servos but worth a try.
Good luck. There's info in the 99 Workshop manual. It looks hideously complicated

Yes... I have this. Exact same sound. 2002 xk8. I've always thought it the heater pump - funky thing to get to at the driver's side fire wall in the engine bay... I've always had this. 4yrs and it's never amounted to much. I turn off the system and turn it back on - smoooths back out. Sometimes I get in the car after turning it off with the HVAC running (heat or AC), start up,Ill get the noise... One in 20 times (more less) no rhyme or reason. Turn power off at the knob and it's gone.

You are more tolerant than I am. I am not sure when I will have time, but I will track this down and I will let you know what it is. I hope someone chimes on who has had this exact same sound with a solution. I guess we will see.....
Sound like one of the flap actuators servo's. It's not the heat pump at the back of the engine, that I can tell you because when it runs it's hardly noticeable, and when its not running you have no heat.
